The food is tasty and fresh, a great place to eat at a reasonable price the naan bread is second to none. Well worth a visit.

Fancied an Indian and we hadn't been here for years so thought wed give it a go. Although nice enough decor the food isn't anything special and as its not that cheap we won't be going again. Not rubbish but there are many more nicer restaurants nearby. Also it was saturday night and we were the only people in. What does... More

Popadoms were nice but the dips mango, onion with chilli and cabbage? With yogurt were not good. Starters:- oily vinegar lentil puri, under cooked bhaji, shami and seekh poor, meat samosa tasteless Mains:- chicken jalfrezi bland, chicken saag nothing to shout about, naan good, pilau rice not bad. Restaurant was nice in appearance, service was poor and it's not often... More

went back for a second time for the buffet meal and once again found it well worth the price charged, bargain for less than £10 each.. The starters are excellent especially the tandoori chicken.. the main meal choices are a tiny bit spicy for my tastes but this is an Indian restaurant after all ,however on our first visit after... Eaten at this little Indian a few times now. The food is always excellent and has that freshly cooked feel. On this visit I had a chicken special balti and it was one of the nicest Indians I have had in a long time. The restaurant does lack a bit of atmosphere but if you like your Indian it's well... I eat here every week! It's always empty but to be fair, the amount of deliveries made shows why. Nobody wants to really eat out anymore. The chicken pakoras, mint sauce, meat samosas and mango chutney are to die for. Garlic chilli chicken curry and chicken and potato balti are just yummy and the name bread! Out of this world.... Description
Shahban is owned and operated by Akram Lohn better known to the regulars as Majid.
At first glance Shahban looks like a nothing-out-of-the-ordinary small Indian restaurant.
It has occupied its spot next to Pontefract's grand old magistrates court building since 1992- but there's a lot more to the place than first meets the eye.
On the first floor is a spacious all you can eat buffet area(open 6-10pm Thur-Sun), elegantly decorated in traditional style and seats up to 60 people in two distinct sections.
Ground floor seats 30 people in contemporary style contrasting the first floor open 7 days a week 5pm-late Sun-Thur 5pm-1am Fri-Sat.
The menu strikes a balance with old and new with traditional curries taking place alongside some of the imaginative dishes Majid has developed in his 20-plus years in the kitchen.
Shahban also offers a takeout and a delivery service if you just want a night in. Open 7 days a week 5pm-late Sun-Thur 5pm-1am Fri-Sat..
