Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We sat in a large outside area in the town square. There is plenty of choice on the menu, snacks and more substantial dishes and drinks. Service was a bit slow, but staff were pleasant. We whiled away an hour or so eating and chatting.

imagine the scene. it is cheese market day in Edam. We take a table for two in the large restaurant in the main square offering sandwiches from 12.00 to 6.00. It is 12.10. We watch as a local greets the staff and sits and is...served. After 14 minutes are Presence is acknowledged by a waitress who takes our order a few minutes later. We order two small beers and ask if there is a sandwich with Edam cheese. There is not. Gouda? No. Dutch cheese? You can only have what is on the menu. If there was a cheese offering other than mozzerella our waitress did not enlighten us. Mackerel? No. We both order tuna sandwich. It is 12.30. A few minutes later the beers arrive and we drink them. 1.10 comes and a waiter asks if we want anything. Yes, the sandwiches ordered 40 minutes ago. They arrive at 1.15. Can we have two more beers to go with them. 20 minutes later, still no beer, so clearly impossible to get sandwich and beer at the same time. I go to pay the same waitress who took the beer order. No second beer even on the system. If you are going to employ school children or students, put someone in charge of them who can manage service. A complete shambles. Of course it is up to the owners not to promote the local produce, but to take over an hour to provide a sandwich is plain silly. This place is clearly just a tourist trap. Avoid.More

After a splendid visit to the Zuiderzeemuseum in Enkhuizen we decided on our way home to stop in the charming town of Edam for a nice stroll and maybe a late lunch. The "L'Auberge Damhotel" seemed to be just the spot, lunch possible till 6...pm and a 4 point rating on TA. It was not busy in the restaurant, one table occupied and minutes after us a party of 4 persons stepped into the restaurant. Plenty of room and three waiters visible on duty. When we entered the restaurant one of the waiters welcomed us (good) and promised to bring the lunch menu to our table. We never saw this waiter again, except in the middle distance. After a while another waiter approached our table and queried if we wanted something to drink. We repeated our wish for lunch and lo and behold, within a minute we had two copies of the lunch menu on our table. We selected our order and put the closed menu books on our table, being sure that one of the three waiters would notice that we were ready to order. It was not busy, remember. But the service had in a short while descended in a complete meltdown. What was the case? During our perusal of the menu the hot chocolate dispenser at the bar seemed to have developed some ailment. In the well known Dutch way, one of the waiters was assessing the ailment and his two colleagues 'helped' him by standing around and looking. The customers were completely disregarded; the sick dispenser had a magic fascination for the staff of three. Not one of the three found it necessary to attend to the customers. When this tableau stayed stationery for about fifteen minutes we lost patience and left. See photo. A one point rating.More

Found this place randomly, and enjoyed a lovely, peaceful lunch on the patio. I am vegetarian and had plenty of choices.

This us the first time in all my travels that there has been a piano in my room. It certainly never added anything to the room either. Travelers these days expect some kind of desk for their laptops and the like. There would be more...than enough room for a desk if that piano was moved out. Other than that, the room was fine, although rather dark. The bathroom was modern with lots of hot water. The bed was comfortable. Noise was not a problem. The stairs going up to the rooms are very steep though. They have a stair-style-lift for those who would be challenged trying to negotiate the stairs. Food is excellent, top notch, beautifully presented and it tastes as good as it looks. The hotel is located centrally so you can pretty well walk all over.More

Our family of five cycled from Amsterdam to Edam and thoroughly enjoyed the lunch we had here. Slightly random selection of food, eg a cheese plate (understandable) combined with a range of tapas plates which included Asian noodles. However, we all enjoyed the fifteenth good...at ordered and the service was friendly and prompt. Would recommend it - residually the fresh orange juice and the satay chicken sandwich.More

Burgers are Burgers!!................but not here! In this charming Old Dutch restaurant in the Cheese City of Edam they serve a "hard to find" Burger. The presentation looks great, the French Fries are terrific and the beef is juicy, tender and tasty with the fresh bacon,...fried egg and of course Edam Cheese. The service very pleasant and casual. Highly recommended!More

This Hotel/restaurant is situated in the heart of Edam and is a lovely quiet place to stay whilst visiting the many attractions in the area. The rooms were individually furnished and, air conditioned; which in heats exceeding 30 degrees Celsius, was a welcome relief. Our...room had a Wonderful comfy bed, and a spacious en Suite, with a large bath, shower, toilet and a more than adequate hair dryer. There is a large open terrace, which serves coffee and lunch, and a beautiful dining area inside. This is not a place to stay if you are disabled as the bedrooms are situated via a steep staircase and there is no lift. Our evening meal arrangement, with wine was delightful and extremely tasty and beautifully presented. Parking is not easy, although there is a fee paying car park close by. Edam is a wonderful place to visit, with attractive shops and is very interesting to walk around. Certainly we would stay here again.More

This was a great restaurant to stop for lunch while touring the town. The food was good (portions are very large), the service was friendly, and the patio on the square with umbrellas was lovely. The indoor seating looked nice as well.

Lovely restaurant in a beautiful setting. Cappuccinos were average, but food was delicious. We all had sandwiches and there wasn’t a complaint all round. The restaurant is happy to make exclusions to their menu (eg no tomato).
