We had the traditional sausage and the fish. The sausage was quite ok, the fish super soft. Both dishes were served with flabby fries, the fish additionally with a small simple salad. Both dishes were not seasoned, not even with salt. With a beer and...water we paid 20 euros, but still not worth it. Just go on the other side of the pinho and pay a bit extra to get e descent meal.More

We were beckoned into this place as we were wandering around the street in Pinhao waiting for our train a few hours ahead. We'd just been seated at the last remaining table (we were six) when a waiter appeared and quickly placed a huge sausage...on each of our plates! And then the bread came and the two carafes of wine! We had no idea what was happening as we hadn't ordered anything and yet three more large platters of food were placed in front of us, one with sausage, another with ribs and cabbage and another with beans...we decided to just embrace the experience as we looked around the place which was full with people that were all eating! In the end we were each charged 15 euros for all of this food and wine, we live with full bellies and happy wallets. What a great experience!More

Nice restaurant with a very local feeling, inexpensive but great quality food. This was a set menu and you need to choose, a fish, chicken or meat, accompanied by salads and potatoes. Great staff and perfect spot for a quick and inexpensive lunch.

We really enjoyed 2 visits to this local restaurant, once for a beer at lunchtime, and then for a meal in the evening. Incredibly reasonable prices, nice Portuguese wine, lovely lady serving us. It seemed to be heavily patronised by locals which is always a...good signMore

This place has really gone downhill. The waiter is one of the most ignorant people I have ever met. I would avoid it and walk over the bridge to two places where the food is better and the service is quick, efficient and FRIENDLY. They...are either the Veladoura or Taberna do Rio.More

This restaurant is frequented by the local population and tourists can stand out a bit, but the food was wholesome and plentiful and the pricing fair. The view across the Douro is beautiful if there isn't a cruise ship moored up

Just be careful here if you are a tourist. We ordered a meal at lunchtime for six people. We also ordered a bottle of rose wine. When the waiter brought the wine to the table it was covered in a cooler jacket. After a while...we realised the wine was not the one we had ordered, it was one the was 7 euros cheaper. The bill showed the more expensive wine of course, which we challenged and the bill was corrected. It might just have been a genuine mistake but maybe it’s a little scheme for the waiter to earn some extra money on the side…More

Facing the magnificent Douro on the South West edge of Pinhao, near Quinta da Foz. Manuel and his staff always offer a very warm welcome. We have been visiting for many years. The food is tasty, local, traditional and unpretentious. Prices are very reasonable and you...will not leave feeling hungry. Can't wait to return.More

Open hours don’t indicate the actual time meals are served. No credit cards accepted. The place is not clean. The terrace is next to the road, and is unpleasant.

My god, the portion sizes. Portugal in general gives great big portions that appeal to my American appetite, but this was something else. 12 euro for a plate sized veal chop and a pound of fries. And not only was it lots of food, but...it was also good. Lightly seasoned and tender. Consistent across dishes as my wife got a pork chop she barely made a dent in (to my benefit), and my friend got a veal steak (slightly tougher). We all thought the veal chop was the best dish, followed by the pork chop. This was consistent with our server's recommendation. Service was also great in general, and we were able to speak for a little bit with the nice owner, who must have been in the Navy since he had visited Norfolk and Newport News, VA back in the day. Only word of caution is that like all Pinhao restaurants, their hours were not updated on Google Maps during off season. We were fortunate that the locals seem to enjoy this place, as they were still open late. Many other restaurants, including fancy winery restaurants, also do not update their hours online, so we would walk up only to find all the lights off despite their being listed as open and even seemingly taking reservations online.More

Recommended by a local with the words, that it's a popular restaurant for locals and with typical portuguese food. He was right, also saying that there often is enough for two people on the plate. We started with vegetable soup, and then of us had...fried fish, the other a veal stew. No Michelin-category, but good value for money.More

A very simple experience. 4 or 5 choices of main course, mainly meat or fish. I had pork filets with chips and salad, my partner had fresh fish with potatoes and salad. Bottle of vinho verde with it, well cooked, simple food, 30 Euro price...tag. Knocks some of the 5 star restaurants into oblivion. Just go and thank me later. Make sure you give them a nice tip.More
