So glad that Norfolk offers Eastern European food in an elegant downtown setting. This to me is one of the most romantic old world settings. The stained glass was beautiful and the paintings inspiring. My wife and I both had salmon and it was a large portion. I would not expect this kind of Dining to have good seafood but... More

We are amateur foodies and do not mind spending money for really good food. This is what I was expecting at the Monastery based on other TripAdvisor reviews, but not what we got. It is a dark, intimate, small old world décor. After arriving through the swinging saloon doors (what's up with that - like the Long Branch saloon or... More

Several years ago my wife and I had a valentines day dinner at the Monastery Restaurant and we had such a good experience that we have made it a tradition. Last valentines day (2017) we made reservations, and as usual, had a wonderful meal. The inside of the restaurant is a bit dark, but relaxing The waiters are knowledgeable and... More

I took advantage of an entertainment book coupon for this restaurant, and given the fact that my girlfriend's background includes Hungarian, this was perfect! The menu choices are all encompassing and we decided on two different steak dishes. They were prepared and presented perfectly, tasted absolutely delicious, and were served on piping hot plates, so no chance of food getting... More

We had dinner last night in this quaint European restaurant on Granby Street in Norfolk The wait staff were extremely friendly and appropriately attentive. The bread and cheese plate is great, the leak and potato soup warming on a cold night I had the roast goose with the chef Adolph's brilliant fine textured sauerkraut. It was absolutely delicious. My companion... More

This place is small but it's so elegant that you will want to go here for special occasions. It's a short walk from the Wells Theatre or MacArthur Mall so it's perfect before or after the play. We started with the complementary appetizer, which was two different kinds of cheese, freshly made bread, and an apple. Then we had the... More

My husband and I visited Monastery on a Sunday evening. It wasn't too crowded but reservations are highly recommended. We ordered the Venison Sauerbraten which was one of the chef's special and the stuffed cabbage. Both were excellent but the Venison was the best I've ever had. The waitress was very polite and accomodating. We will definetly return soon.

Simple fare quality ingredients well prepared. The cheese spread served with warm bread is a nice touch.

Enjoyed a very nice dinner with my wife and sister. Waitress was great, cordial, new the menu inside and out and her recommendations were truly appreciated and right on. Excellent assortment of Eastern European meat dishes I had a schnitzel al Holstein (great sauce with capers and an egg on top!) . My wife, a pork dish which she also... More

Had a perfectly lovely lunch here. Food was very good and staff was attentive but not overly so. Would be a great place for a a small event or private party.
