Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

3.5 stars. Chicken & chips was pretty decent and served within a reasonable time frame given the vast size of the place. 25 years ago it was a charming outdoor shack beside a minor back road. Now it’s a huge characterless barn beside a busy...4 lane road adjacent to Lidl. The old boy waiters are efficient automatons but with no apparent personality which kinda sums up the place. Btw the melon was unripe suggesting it might have came straight from Lidl.More

Excellent value and very good meal.. we visited twice during a recent trip and the whole family loved it . the waiting staff have worked there since it opened ( or so it seems ) they're not big on small talk or smiles but very...efficient and get the job done.. you'll have to que if you get there after 7pm in the summer months , but meals there are generally in and out in an hourMore

We had dinner at Marufo 2 and everything was amazing. We had chicken for 3, a beefsteak and for dessert a D. Rodrigo. For drinks a bottle of red wine and a big water bottle. The staff was nice and the service was very quick,...definitely recommend.More

If you want a leisurely meal, waited on hand on foot and to listen to gentle jazz whilst sat at a large round table with a linen tablecloth, ice buckets and wine poured every 5 minutes, then do not come here. Marufo 1 is a...noisy school canteen sort of place, or you can sit on the terrace with a busy road one side and the clatter of inside the other. You basically just go in and sit down. Don't wait to be shown to a table. Over the road, Marufo 2 is a little calmer, and more restaurant-y. The waiters are efficient but grumpy. If you are English, they will nod but not converse back in English. A few words of Portuguese are met with a smile and a nod. However the food is good, cheap, filling and you struggle to find better value on this stretch of the Algarve. Chicken (Frango) is king but the pork also good, as are the sardines if they have them. Drinks are cheap, beer is cold, they don't charge 4 euros for a can of coke and you are in and out. Coffee is still less than 1 euroMore

Wish I could rate this restaurant higher as the food is superb. However, 2 waiters were extremely rude and passive aggressive. This totally spoilt our experience.

We have been coming here for a decade. Looks are deceiving, this is the original Nandos. Half a chicken and chips €7.50 and my wife had sea bass - fantastic as always. Yes the waiters are efficient as opposed to friendly, but the food is...the real deal. We arrived today at opening time (midday) and by 12.50 there wasn’t a table in the house. NB CASH ONLYMore

Decent food but the service was terrible, the waiter walked away when we were ordering desert and didn'n come back untill I called him over again - he left because our 8 y.o. daughter had qestions about the desert-menu and he 'was buisy and didn't...have time for that'!!! Would never recommed this place to anyone.More

This place is very popular. Get there early if you want a table. Huge queues when we left. Very basic but good honest food and, for the Algarve, a bargain in terms of cost.

Excellent meal as ever. Prices can’t be beaten. Fast service and always a great meal. We love it. The piri piri chicken, chips and salad is so tasty as are the garlic prawns. Highly recommended!!

Server seemed like he didn’t want us there because we came at 10, operating hours of the kitchen is until 10:30, so not sure why he was upset with us. Sole fish was average , veg on the side was horrible never ate it ....Black pork chops was amazing however. That’s it. Would not go back. By the way this rating applies to Marufo 2 which is opposite the road from marufo 1.More

Has not changed in the many years that we have been coming to the algarve. Chicken and chips is king here. Served simply but well. Great prices. Lost a star for no card payments, really in 2022!

It’s very basic, very noisy, not very welcoming. The term “fast food” was invented here! Find your own table, menus thrown at you. Waiter stood there with a stony face,we just asked for chicken and chips as he was clearly not going to wait while we browsed the...menu. The food was on our table in seconds. We regretted ordering a large beer and half bottle of wine (they don’t sell it by the glass) as we didn’t even get to finish them. I gave the rest of the wine to the next table. It’s not the place to go and enjoy a chat or a leisurely drink. I just don’t get what all the fuss is about,it’s very mediocre chicken and chips in a noisy, canteen environment.More

We were taken by friends who love it here, but I just didn't get it! We had bony chicken and chips and it's set out like a canteen, so the noise and clatter are considerable. It's cheap - but I wouldn't go again. We couldn't...have a conversation. Not for me.More

The restaurant doesn’t take card but there is an ATM right outside the restaurant where you can get cash to pay. Hope this helps.
