Arrived at 6:30pm so managed to get a table straight away. Had the couvert €1 each, a bottle of house red, €6.50, chicken and chips €7 each and a large mixed salad €3, excellent value. They give you piri piri so you can put as much as you like on your chicken but it is really really tasty with nothing added. Our first visit but we will be going back, loved it.

It’s very basic,very noisy,not very welcoming. The term “fast food” was invented here! Find your own table,menus thrown at you. Waiter stood there with a stony face,we just asked for chicken and chips as he was clearly not going to wait while we browsed the menu. The food was on our table in seconds. We regretted ordering a large beer and half bottle of wine (they don’t sell it by the glass) as we didn’t even get to finish them. I gave the rest of the wine to the next table.
It’s not the place to go and enjoy a chat or a leisurely drink.
I just don’t get what all the fuss is about,it’s very mediocre chicken and chips in a noisy,canteen environment.

This is our family favourite local Portuguese restaurant.
No need to book, just turn up.
This is a no frills place, the service isn’t always delivered with a smile, but the food is really good and represents tremendous value for money. 6 of us can eat here for €100 which includes drinks and starters!
The food is freshly cooked and you can’t go wrong. All of the fish and meat is on display for you to choose if you wish.
You’ll get your bill at the table, but you have to go up to the bar to pay.
The quality of food is better than most of the high end restaurants that charge triple in the area.

An absolute must this place!!!!
Food is off the scale sardines with rock salt cooked perfectly. Chicken is so Succulent and tasty
We seem to have the same waiter what a nice man.
Only thing wrong with this place is it’s in Portugal 😭😭

Can’t believe people rate it poorly because the waiter is grumpy.If you want a saccharine smile and to hear “have a nice day” go to McDonalds.
We had the chicken and steak. Chicken was succulent, crispy skin and delicious. Steak was fine. Tomato salad was fresh and tasty.
Ive been twice and there’s a reason this place is always full despite being away from the main hubs.
If you want great food at very reasonable prices go. If you’re going to whine because the waiters aren’t smiling then go somewhere else and you’ll lessen the waiting time for the rest of us.

If you want a leisurely meal, waited on hand on foot and to listen to gentle jazz whilst sat at a large round table with a linen tablecloth, ice buckets and wine poured every 5 minutes, then do not come here.
Marufo 1 is a noisy school canteen sort of place, or you can sit on the terrace with a busy road one side and the clatter of inside the other. You basically just go in and sit down. Don't wait to be shown to a table. Over the road, Marufo 2 is a little calmer, and more restaurant-y.
The waiters are efficient but grumpy. If you are English, they will nod but not converse back in English. A few words of Portuguese are met with a smile and a nod.
However the food is good, cheap, filling and you struggle to find better value on this stretch of the Algarve. Chicken (Frango) is king but the pork also good, as are the sardines if they have them. Drinks are cheap, beer is cold, they don't charge 4 euros for a can of coke and you are in and out. Coffee is still less than 1 euro

I was brought here by a friend the last time I was in Portugal and was so surprised. It’s nicknamed the chicken shack as rotisserie chicken is their speciality. This place is off the side of the road and looks can be deceiving as it does look like a shack. I came back in April 2022 and had to bring my friends here. We drove nearly 40 mins to get here but it was worth wait and it was still as tasty as ever. I would recommend the half chicken and chips and you won’t be disappointed. For a group of 8 we had two meals each, drinks and it cost less than €20. Fantastic value for money. The one thing to note is that because this place is very popular there is generally a queue. I would recommend arriving early just before they open to ensure you get a table. The staff look to turn tables around quickly due to the queues so don’t expect top quality service but the food and value for money are well worth it.

Went here yesterday. Booked a table for 13 people. They had no problem fitting us in. Enjoyed a table full of piri piri chicken, salad and chips. Prices are extremely reasonable. Bill was under 200 euro in total for all food and drinks. Have been before on other trips and can't wait to go back again and try their other menu items.
General consensus from locals is if you want grilled chicken or fish this is the ONLY place to go. And if you want a table you have to arrive at 6:30 when they open or you will have to queue down the street and wait for a table. So so so so busy.

My husband 94 and me 80 have been going to eat chicken Peri peri etc at Marufo for decades. There are still some of the waiters there that we met when we first visited the restaurant. We vote it the best restaurant for peri peri chicken in tbe Algarve and we have been to them all !! We are greeted like family when we visit and we are travelling there when they open in summer and can’t wait - our whole family call in to eat their delicious simple tasty food every time they are in the country!

We were cautious coming here as quite a few reviews mentioned rude waiters and bad service but we didn’t encounter this at all. The waiters were great. The food was excellent. Lovely and fresh and so very well priced. We sat in the outside terrace. We were a family of three. We had 1/2 grilled spatchcock chicken which was lovely & moist with a crispy skin and chips. We also had some peri peri oil 🤤 and a large salad which was your basic lettuce, tomato & onion. King prawns in garlic. Bread & olives and three Colas. €32. Marvellous.

Can only book for 6+ so it's a wait for a seat place. We were already advised of this so turned up 10 minutes before opening and were seated straight away. By 12:30pm the whole restaurant was full with people queuing to sit and order take away.
It's a basic menu which allowed us to decide quickly. We had the prawns, steak, chips, side salad, and 4 beers for €33 which we were very impressed with. Think we waited 20 minutes, but we were happy with this considering how busy it was.
Everything was cooked to perfection, and we can't wait to return.

You would think after 50 years you would have sampled chicken pretty well most ways. This place moves it to a whole new level. Absolutely delicious, succulent on the bone straightforward chicken. Will always visit every time I'm in the region. Very popular restaurant so get there early or be prepared to wait. (well worth it!!)

We arrived this evening about 6'20pm only to be told we had arrived early (even though they open at 6pm), the waiter was quite abrupt in manner. However he said we could wait at the table. We waited, wish we hadn't, he was most unfriendly to us muttering under his breath, however when other People arrived he was really pleasant with them.I could not believe it, so although the food was good, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED do not arrive early!!!!!!!!

Arrived with a very grumpy waiter. Hovered around moaning whilst we decided what we wanted from the menu.
Food came quick. 2 out of 4 of us had steak. Worst steak ever, cold, tough and inedible. My partner had chicken which he enjoyed. Other member of the party had pork which was also cold and chewy.
upon asking for the bill the waiter noticed that only one meal had be eaten. No comment but a very dirty look.

When there's a queue to get in, it usually means the food is good. That's certainly the case here, 100% pure Portuguese no frills dining that doesn't break the bank.
The service is spot on, and the food is superb. It's also known as the chicken shack.
They do a comprehensive menu including steaks and fish, the salads are also very good, but its best known for its Piri Piri chicken.
People come from miles around, its very popular locally with lots of families enjoying the food.
They just opened a Marufo 2 opposite.
An UBER will take you there from near the marina for around €5.00 and pick you up in around two minutes when you leave.
