This is an interesting place to visit and just sit and chat with friends. They have good coffees and teas and baked goods at decent prices. My biggest complaint is that they charge $1 for coffee refills. Accessibility could be a problem for some people as it is on the second floor with steep steps outside to gain access.

Wonderful upstairs location with a casual mix of old worn furniture and rough wood seats. Coffee cups may be a mug or a jar. Real country feel. Pastries are fresh and impossible to resist. Coffee flavors varied and even the plain coffee can be mild or medium. Stir sticks are pastry. A real place to search out and enjoy.

My wife gets excited with the Pumpkin Spiced Latte comes out at Starbucks every year; well that may very well change after trying this one. Now I have a feeling she'll remember that day we drove through the mountains and I'll get the "remember how good that coffee was!" I'm no pumpkin fan and even I liked it the subtle... More

The fact that the Loft is on the second floor is amazing to me. It has a wonderful view out the windows, very comfortable chairs, couch, wherever you choose to sit. The atmosphere just wraps you in contentedness, as you sip the drink of your choice which is high quality and prepared by professionals. The food is delightfully delicious, and... More

Our entire family of 9 visited this cute little cafe on our way to and from Primland. The coffee was so good, its no wonder they received awards! Best espresso in America. The baked goods are delicious, I wished I ordered one of each type. The place is cozy, charming, and has a bookstore downstairs. The staff were all sweet... More

Everyone who visits Floyd has to hi Blackwater Loft. It's a nice little family-run coffee shop (the family also runs a bookstore downstairs and a coffee roasting operation).

My wife and I stopped here while driving through the Blue Ridge Parkway, based on a recommendation from online reviews of breakfast in the area- and we are very glad we did! This place had phenomenal coffee, a unique setting with good atmosphere, and fresh roasted beans to purchase (as well as having very tasty scones and cookies). Prices were... More

If you are in Floyd, VA, don't miss out on visiting Black Water Loft! The coffee is fair-trade and excellent! The pastries are also delicious. In addition, there is an fabulous local bookstore downstairs. Don't hesitate to ask for recommendations from the owner of the bookstore. I've been very pleased with every book she's recommended.

If you don't mind going up a lot of stairs (outside), the Black Water Loft is a great place for a latte, or coffee of whatever kind you want, plus a freshly baked goody. It's a very laid-back place, and if you want to sit around, play chess or whatever, that okay, too.
