This is the place to go in Charlottesville for Chicken! I have been eating at Wayside since I was a little girl. The family that now has ownership has really done fabulous things to the menu and the location. We love visiting wayside. We order tenders for our tailgates and everyone always loves when we show up with wayside! Our... More

We moved to Charlottesville a year ago, and lived 3 miles from Wayside the first nine months. When eating fried chicken, it is about the whole experience: delicious chicken plus collard greens, mac n cheese, and mashed potatoes and gravy. Everything is delicious at Wayside! And the staff who work there always serve it up with a smile. We miss... More

I was driving around town. I drove past Wayside. I had heard the legend of their fried chicken. I asked my kids if I should turn around. They said yes, confirming what was in my heart and stomach. I walked in and ordered an 8-piece box of fried chicken for $9. We then drove to Monticello to enjoy this local... More

We sought out Wayside Takeout while in Charlottesville because we saw it listed online as the #1 best fried chicken in Virginia. It did not disappoint! As first time customers, we let the clerk advise us on the menu and we chose a fried chicken meal for takeout. We ate it later when we stopped along the road and picnicked.... More

If you haven't tried their baked beans, get in your car and go get some now. Old family recipe full of bacon, brown sugar, and slow cooked beans. Lots of great home cooked food on the menu, friendly staff, fast service. Quaint old fashioned booths to eat in, or take some home. Really good food for a great price.

This is primarily a take out restaurant, but they do have a few tables. There is no atmosphere, but the star is excellent. The food is very inexpensive, but excellent. I read that & drove from Md outside of D.C. to obtain it & don't think that the trip was a waste. That tells you something, but of course we did... More

I used to live around the corner from Wayside. I loved the neighborhood, but passing by without picking up a two-pieces of dark meat and two side combo was almost painful. I especially think the baked beans (in addition to the chicken itself) are worth trying. I'm in Boston now, and my mouth is watering in memory....

If you haven't visited wayside, stop what your doing and go now....unless it's Sunday then go tomorrow. Wayside is Charlottesville institution and offers excellent chicken and sides at great prices. The restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly.

Hands down the best chicken in town for all the years I can remember. Step back in time 40 years to original decor. Collard greens are Southern style.

I realize some folks might not consider a small, local, primarily take away fried chicken joint something worthy enough to consider while in Charlottesville. On the other hand, if you really want a taste of real southern comfort food, Wayside Fried Chicken is worth checking out. The menu consists of . . . well . . . fried chicken. There... More
