I try to come to this restaurant every time I go to Vermont. The wait time indicates that this is a yummy place! They are open for breakfast and lunch. Cheesy grits are the BEST! I have not had a meal there I didn’t thoroughly...More

This little cafe is very casual, clean and yummy. We had breakfast here two mornings in a row. You must, must have the pancakes!

A lovely breakfast - goat cheese omelet for me, eggs on veggie hash for my sweetie - with a side of delicious corn bread. Fast service at 930am on a Saturday. This is clearly a popular local spot. Later returned for tasty apple pie, spied...More

Sorry but the food here was only going to appeal to an American. We ordered a sandwich with fries and a plate of just fries. Fries seem to be some horible black mess coated in something horrible. Sorry but I hated this place

They have a great menu...the food was good when we finally got it. Seemed like all staff were scurrying around not sure of who was doing what....very frustrating and seemed like unnecessary waits.More

My friend asked me to meet him here for lunch. My past impression of Down Home is that it relies too much on its kitschy decor and "atmosphere" and doesn't deliver on food and service. This visit was better. The table service was friendly and...More

While in Montpelier, VT we found ourselves taking lots of hilly walks/hikes, including the huge and beautiful Hubbard Park that is the green backdrop just behind the Statehouse. One can get lost in the vast network of trails in Hubbard Park, see wildlife, hear unusual...More

I've been there twice now. The grits were spectacular with the very first bite. I asked the server. He said it is mixed with cream cheese!. Many more calories than I was expecting and that certainly explains the richness with every spoonful. The cornbread is...More

Stopped in on our way south because of the good TripAdvisor reviews. We’re glad we did. The food was very tasty and the wait staff were really sweet and hard working. They also have a maple creemee (maple-flavored soft-serve) which is a great end to...More

Down Home Kitchen was established by Mary Alice Proffitt in the fall of 2015 in beautiful and historic downtown Montpelier, Vermont, as a community-minded restaurant serving scratch-made, with love, homestyle cooking and baking like her mother, Sally, and grandmother, Miriam, made for her growing up in Atlanta, Georgia. Down Home's caring and talented staff work hard each and every day to create a warm and inviting atmosphere for you, baking and cooking to order each customer's meal with the best quality local, free-range and organic ingredients whenever possible while still maintaining a price point and menu that is accessible to all in our diverse community. The pleasure of having is in sharing. Please enjoy your food and fellowship and make yourself at home.
