While in Montpelier, VT we found ourselves taking lots of hilly walks/hikes, including the huge and beautiful Hubbard Park that is the green backdrop just behind the Statehouse. One can get lost in the vast network of trails in Hubbard Park, see wildlife, hear unusual...More

I've been there twice now. The grits were spectacular with the very first bite. I asked the server. He said it is mixed with cream cheese!. Many more calories than I was expecting and that certainly explains the richness with every spoonful. The cornbread is...More

Stopped in on our way south because of the good TripAdvisor reviews. We’re glad we did. The food was very tasty and the wait staff were really sweet and hard working. They also have a maple creemee (maple-flavored soft-serve) which is a great end to...More

My wife and I recently visited and loved everything about our lunch. We were seated right away, served quickly by a helpful and nice staff and the food was excellent. The cherry coke was a nice surprise! Would definitely go back if we're in the...More

Excellent service, ambiance and breakfast was amazing. The music was too loud and made it a bit difficult to converse.

Had a wonderful breakfast here with my love, food was great, service was easy on the eyes and super friendly. Prices were a little steep but servings were generous and I didn’t leave hungry. The surroundings are so weirdly overdone in a rustic/‘down home’ theme...More

I ordered the bbq pork sandwich with plantain chips. The bbq pork was decent but the plantain chips had no flavor. I tried to come around to them but they were super underwhelming. However, the garlic dipping sauce served with them was amazing. The restaurant...More

Warm welcoming. We felt like they invited us in their own home. The service was fast. The waitresses were very smiling. The vintage decor is pretty and the food is good! We loved it!

When reviewing a place, easy to like it if you are in good company. Went in solo, got a stool at the bar by the end and loved it. Despite a crowded restaurant, was able to enjoy coffee and breakfast at my own pace with...More

I have to admit that I was taken back when I was charged a 2 % mandatory tip for the kitchen staff. The omelettes at best were okay and the home fries were four small roasted potatoes. This is the first restaurant that did NOT...More

Description
Down Home Kitchen was established by Mary Alice Proffitt in the fall of 2015 in beautiful and historic downtown Montpelier, Vermont, as a community-minded restaurant serving scratch-made, with love, homestyle cooking and baking like her mother, Sally, and grandmother, Miriam, made for her growing up in Atlanta, Georgia. Down Home's caring and talented staff work hard each and every day to create a warm and inviting atmosphere for you, baking and cooking to order each customer's meal with the best quality local, free-range and organic ingredients whenever possible while still maintaining a price point and menu that is accessible to all in our diverse community. The pleasure of having is in sharing. Please enjoy your food and fellowship and make yourself at home.
