The giant tulips and the huge clog outside are a bit of a giveaway and this Dutch bakery does not disappoint in any aspect of their business. Spotless throughout with the pleasant aroma of coffee assailing your nostrils as you enter through the back door. My wife and I recollected some of the amazing pastries on display as we had... More

What a surprise when I discovered Bakkerij Krijnen in its unassuming spot on the outskirts of Bennington. Bread, pastries, cakes, sandwiches - love them all. This weekend I bought sourdough bread, pastries and croissants for out-of-town guests. They were such a hit that we returned on Sunday so that they could schlep the croissants back to NYC with them. My... More

I was here with a friend. I had a chocolate mousse that was sinfully delicious. My friend had floorless almond cookies dipped in chocolate with an apricot filling. They were amazing. Everything here looked and tasted delicious. This is a truly European bakery. The staff were very friendly too. A great stop in Bennington. If you buy $5 worth, a... More

We knew this was on the list. I got the cherry Danish. The difference between this and any other "Danish" you have ever had is the difference between canned green beans and fresh. So delicious! Hubby got the savory beet and cheese puff pastry. Declared best ever. Daughter and friend got the apple turnover. Flaky light not too sweet. Take... More

We were staying in Bennington VT at one of the local inns and skiing each day at resorts about 45 minutes away. We stopped here on a Friday evening (about 30 min before closing) to pick up some muffins/Danish’s to eat the next morning on a drive to the ski resort. Being that it was late in the day, their... Thank you very much for taking the time to review our family bakery. I agree $29 does sound high for six pastries and a loaf of bread. I remember you all were here Valentine weekend, which I believe also coincided with President's Day [weekend] this year. I looked up your transaction and the reason it may have seemed high priced... Bakkerij Krijnen is on the eastern edge of town and shouldn't be missed. It's entrance is through a door off its small parking lot, but there is also room to park along the street. Just like the bakery on the other side of town, this one too has you enter first through an area that is not the bakery's display... More

This was our first time at Bakkerij Krijnen. We'd never had a need for a bakery in Bennington before, but we wanted to bring a hostess gift to a friend down the road in Williamstown, MA. We found this bakery through Trip Advisor. We would recommend it to anyone. We had the linzer torte, puff pastry with fruit, almond cookies... More

So many buttery treats and many with the delightful almond paste or marzipan filling! We had seen an advertisement for a European bakery in an Albany, NY magazine and decided to go find it. Although it is expensive, the ingredients used are of highest quality. We bought a 6" square spice cake with an almond paste filling for $7.50 but... More

I stopped here last month and was happy to see that it was open for business. I bought a quiche to take home and it was amazing. I also ordered crousants that were light and flakey. I am glad that the owner has recouperated.

The bakery is closed until late November while the owner-baker recovers from knee surgery, but everything about it is first rate, from the breads to the pastries and cookies and pies. If you're going to indulge in calories for deserts they should be good ones, and these are extraordinary.
