We were hesitant to go here, even though there was little other choice, but a lot of times the BBQ places are just too informal and bordering on unclean. This was different, though! We didn't know what to expect, but when we walked in, a woman stood in front of a large meat oven (?) and showed us the different... More

As you order your meats off a open pit most people order way to much. I've seen two people end up with $80 to $100 just in meats. Little of this and a little of that adds up. You can take leftovers home though.

I did not think I would like it because I have not heard of it but it was great. I'm going back! All meats were very good. Nothing fancy just good Texas BBQ. Try the Ribs.

When you head out to Spicewood, your gateway to the Texas Hill Country, do not miss a lunch at Opie's! As you enter the capacious dining room, stop to select your meats, all deeply smoked and smokin' good. No plates, just butcher paper, plasticware and rolls of paper towels at the table. Get a bowl of their wonderful pinto beans,... More

Given that Texas BBQ is a matter of personal preference, and, there is no lack of BBQ joints in Hill Country, Opie's stands out. Why? The Opie's experience begins at the door with a "pick your own meat" pit featuring jalepeno sausage, ribs, pork chops, pork loin, and of course their brisket. The brisket is different in that it has... More

We attended a rehearsal dinner at Opies with about 30 people. The brisket was smoky goodness and the sausage was tasty. I loved the tater tot casserole and the butter beans and pinto beans were also very good. We had peach cobbler to finish off the meal in a most satisfying way. It was a great intro to a beautiful... Outstanding! Great pinto beans, just right cole slaw (picky), potato casserole yummy. Too full for the cobblers, which looked wonderful. Highly recommend. Eat in or take out. The finest thing about this place is that you get to see the meats - and there was quite a variety to choose from, all freshly cooked.

I have eaten at Opie's 2 times. Both times we excellent. Any time we are in the area we stop and enjoy the pit selections. Always great!

I go here lots. Be careful not to order to much as you order off pit. Beans are free, included. I can eat for less then $6.00.
