This is the place! It's crowded with families, blue collars workers, white collar workers, locals, and drunk college kids. It's small, dark, cramped, and legendary. I eat here every time I'm in town. I love it, my kids love it, my friends love it. We ate here Saturday night. A small group with kids. They told us there was a... More

We had lunch last week at the famous and fabulous Herbert's Taco Hut and it was to die for delicious and authentic TexMex food and ambience.

Five stars for being local, authentic, delicious and unfailingly polite. Need to get it above 4 stars. Ate here with co-workers while here in San Marcos at a conference. Restaurant is packed with locals with kids, offering families an affordable delicious experience. Nothing is over $10 and wonderful daily dinner specials for $6.25. Guacamole recipe shared willingly - and wonderful... More

This place is still busy as it was when I was in college-about 50 years ago. Good hometown Mexican food. Salsa was good and chips were warm. Taco salad was delish!

Herbert's is a very colorful funsy kind of restaurant. There is indoor/outdoor dining. The restaurant offers very authentic Mexican food. The staff are very industrious, pleasant, and attentive to your needs. The prices are very reasonable. The food was okay. The salsa sauce was very good and the tortillas are homemade.

This place has ranked upon my favorites since the mid 90s when I went to college in the town. All these years later and their enchiladas and queso are still to die for!

I'll simply say this, the salsa is great, the tortillas are homemade, and if it's your first time, you have to go with the Beef Enchiladas.
