Picked Cranky's from all the great reviews and did not disappoint. Hubs had beef brisket and I had loaded spud - delicious! No fat, which is a biggie for me. Huge portion, could only eat 1/3 of it. Suggest splitting unless you are starving. Typical hole-in-the-wall BBQ joint. No atmosphere if that's what you're looking for. Just good old-fashioned Texas... More

Show up when they open because once they sell what they have for the day, they close. When we ordered brisket, the trimmings were being thrown away and I commented that they should put that in the chopped. The cutters reply was, "At Cranky Franks, we only throw meat in our chopped." The pulled pork and the ribs were just... More

Based on the largely positive Trip Advisor reviews - and a desire to see a bit of the famous Texas Country - my wife I I took the scenic route from San Antonio to Austin and stopped at Cranky Frank's for lunch. The barbecue smelled good from the road, and the number of local trucks & cars on the lot... More

We stopped to pick up some Q for a family visit at Kerrville State Hospital, and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of this BBQ. The setting is nothing to write home about, and I certainly would not come here for a special occasion or romantic dinner, but the food is really very, very good BBQ. The side dishes... More

It was a neat experience and I would recommend it. We arrived around 11:45 am and went in for lunch. We are from Canada so we asked the cook what they recommended. He said the ribs and the brisket. It was really good. Not a huge amount. A couple ribs each and brisket to put on bread. It is self... More

While visiting in Fredericksburg and looking for a place to eat lunch, I read about this place on a local advertisement. They suggest getting there early because when they sell out, they close for the day! The building is not real attractive, but the food is DELICIOUS ! Sat inside (for lunch)and it didn't take long, there wasn't a seat... More

Coming in off season, you can tell which is a place locals go to because it is busy at lunch on a weekday. I had the pork rib plate which comes with unlimited sides. There were four ribs on my plate and I only had the corn and the green beans. Total $13 but I also only had water. Great... More

My granddaughter and I enjoyed this as a change from the expensive downtown restaurants. Many locals eat at this no frills place. The food is very good and reasonably priced. Go early as they open for lunch and close when they run out of food. There is not much indoor seating. It was January, but it was still warm enough... More

Great ribs and brisket. My husband and I eat there regularly and never get anything but tasty and very tender meat. Serve yourself side dishes which are prepared well and two bbq sauces to choose from. Indoor and outdoor seating. Don't pass this place up if you are coming to Fredericksburg.

Thank Kathi S
