Restaurant offers fine dining level suprises made by local Carelian rawmaterials. Chef Anni's servings are like small art works. We stayed over night at Puukari and tested lunch, dinner and breakfast. WAU!

A lovely local Northern Karelian guest house with exceptional organic cuisine. It is located in the nice area in the countryside in Valtimo, far from any mainstream tourism areas. The experience is worth to make visit though. Accommodation is simple and clean, the best parts...of the visit are the meals. We had the best private dinner for just two of us and exceptional breakfast next morning. The food served is remarkable because of it's simplicity and pure tastes. Everything you eat is either self grown or locally produced. The roots of the dishes are deep in the Karelian culture and the presentation of the food suits to it character. Also extra ordinary wine selection and recommendations are available. Keep open all your senses and gratefully accept what is served. Definitely hope to visit it again!More

The atmosphere is relaxed and the guests are welcomed warmly. Like you were visiting a good old friend who you have not seen for a long time. The owner and hostess Anni Inkeri is an interesting person with stories from past and today. The food...is cooked from local indegrients with love and you can taste it.More

This is nice place with nice atmosphere and good service. We came here with my wife and my mother to have lunch little late considered to be Finns. Yet we were served with big amount of food to eat, from starters to main dish. And...everything was excellent! This is not expensive at all, if you compare it what you have or will eat:)More

Awesome food, good location and facilities and great service. A big sauna. All food is produced with ecological methods and raw incredients are acquired from own or near fields. Food is hand made. Tee was great, I think it was spearmint.

We celebrated our birthday at Puukarin Pysäkki. All guests had a sauna and dinner, some stayed overnight too. We were warmly welcomed by the hostess of the place. First she showed the way to sauna where we found not only a basket full of cold...and organic beer and cider, but also all different kinds of healing herbs and home-made sauna cosmetics that we could use. We were pampering ourselves in sauna with honey masks and birch leave and salt foot baths. It was a great way to start the evening. Our dinner started with a glass of organic sparkling wine and it was followed by a great variety of different starters, such as seasonal salads, fishes and unique rye pastries. Just to mention a few, as there were plenty! Delicious starters set our expectations towards the main course really high and we didn’t have to be disappointed. Main course included again lots of different dishes, such as braised turnip, roasted potatoes, beetroot, and super tasty whitefish with herbs. Horseradish mayonnaise gave a great kick to fish and veggies and the usage of herbs added unique flavours to each dish. Riesling that our hostess was recommending was a great choice. As the occasion was a birthday, our dessert was a huge cake with lingonberries and caramel. All courses were served with proper Karelian style, so one didn’t have to leave the place hungry. All in all our dinner was probably the best I have ever had. Creative combinations, fresh, pure flavours and organic ingredients together with professional and warm-hearted service made our evening memorable and special. Few lucky ones spent the night in Puukari, so they got to experience the breakfast too. Fresh coffee, home-made granola, sea-buckthorn berry kissel, oat porridge, rye bread, organic yogurt and again those herbs! I had my thick yogurt with dried nettles. Yummy! Innovative, pure food is certainly the reason why to come to Puukarin Pysäkki. Also the cosiness of the place together with lovely service makes the place worth visiting.More

Lovely place to have a cup of coffee and ice cream. Also the lunch dishes looked delicious! Owners are sweet and talkative and their warm ryebread directly from wooden heated Owen is so good. Definitely worth of having a rest. :)
