The Tower Restaurant is part of the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel. Have stayed several times and always enjoyed it. Good food, excellent accommodation in peaceful location.

We live in mid Wales and so were able to go to the Tower Restaurant for lunch during the English lockdown. We contacted the hotel beforehand because we were going to have my elderly and quite immobile mother-in-law with us, and they were helpful with...guidance as to level entry to the building etc. On arrival we were asked to stand in front of a wall-mounted thermometer and be temperature checked before proceeding to the dining room. Furniture had been rearranged to accommodate social distancing, staff all wore masks or shields and there were plenty of notices to remind guests about the importance of social distancing, washing hands etc. The Tavern Bistro was not open for lunches when we visited, but the lunch menu, sandwich menu and afternoon tea menu were all available within the Tower Restaurant. Stretching for quite a length along the front of the building, the restaurant has simply stunning views over the lake and we were lucky enough to be placed at a table which made the very best of the views. The menu is quite compact at the moment, but there is a good choice for all tastes. My mother-in-law has a small appetite and so was happy to choose a couple of dishes from the Tapas menu, sweet potato fries and tempura battered prawns, which she is still talking about weeks later. My other half and I both went for main dishes - Stroganoff Linguine Pasta and Braised Venison with Mashed Potato and Red Cabbage, both of which were delicious, good hearty food with excellent ingredients and very filling, as good quality good so often is. Being so full, we didn't have a second course but, on ordering coffees, which we took sitting on sofas in front of a roaring log fire, we each had a home-made shortbread biscuit on our saucer - a nice touch. It is all too easy, during this most unusual of years, to think that we have / we are missing out on travel and leisure opportunities, whilst overlooking that there is so much right here on our doorstep; excellent establishments serving good food with friendly and professional service, who need us to be supporting them. The Tower Restaurant and the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel are situated in an idyllic spot, a drive to get there, yes; but a Welsh hills and valleys drive, which will soothe your soul and have you relaxed and chilled by the time you arrive. The three of us ate with two main courses, two tapas dishes, three large premium ciders and three coffees and our bill came to around £60. The service was professional and friendly, unrushed and the environment was picturesque and super relaxing. We would highly recommend a visit.More

Ate here for four nights during our stay, including 4 breakfasts and 2 lunches too. So 10 consecutive meals. Have eaten her numerous times over the last few years. Service was consistently good, efficient and friendly. The food is delicious! The Menu did not seem...to change in the four nights we were there but it was easy to choose something different each day. People who are a bit precious about their food choices may find food repetitive. Breakfast was delicious, the tray full of breakfast goodies was such a good idea! We shall definitely be returning again!More

Ate here the night I stayed in the hotel. Cauliflower soup was watery, unsalted and needed cream. The crispy sea bass was not crispy and came with a risotto that was so overcooked you could wallpaper with it. The breakfast was just ok, and was...not very hot, and came really quickly as if it had been sitting around for a while. So all in all poor.More

We had 2 dinners here, the first one was perfect, the second one wasn’t as good. The portions are all right. You receive complimentary olives while you wait for your table and at the table they serve mini soup of the day, focaccia like bread...with butter and olive oil - they were nice both times. Starters: Smoked duck breast: on night 1 it was perfect, but for the second time it was a bit hard to cut it - a tendon was running through it, and it wasn’t hot either day, still, it was a nice starter, we were unlucky for the second time. Local game terrine was my husband’s first choice, it was nice. Arancini was my second choice, nothing special. I was rather expecting a rice ball filled with roasted squash and pine nut, but probably it’s different everywhere. Mains: Lamb rump 10/10! I loved it! Local pheasant: it was also nice 😊 Pork belly quince: hubby’s choice, he liked it too. Pan roasted cod: I didn’t really like it, the cod wasn’t seasoned I think. My personal preference is a bit more taste- I know that the cod is not the tastiest fish but still you can compensate it a bit. Dessert: We had poached pear, chocolate mousse cake (it was really delicious) and ice cream. The staff is nice, I’m not too sure how much pressure they have but some of them seemed quite nervous and stressed. They were all nice! I’m sure they do their best 😊More
