I've lived in Memphis for several years, I have had most pulled pork sandwiches offered across the city and this is the best one in my opinion. The pork is chopped in from of you by Miss Payne herself, the coleslaw is different here, mustard base and is excellent combined with the pork in bbq sauce. The smoked sausage is... More

We had lunch at this place on May 19th. There is parking in front of the place. I do not know if you can call it a restaurant. It is more a big kitchen with a room to sit. There are a lot of people that enter to order to go. The menu is on the wall. We had a... More

Memphis is well known for it's BBQ. You can get many different varieties and style in the city. If you want Great no frills food this would be a great place to try. People seem to come from near and far to get a taste of this somewhat unique flavor. If you just want BBQ you can go anywhere, however... More

:Ambience: the ultimate hole in the wall, in what can most charitably be described as a depressed neighborhood. The kitchen resembles something out of the deep, rural South in the 1950's, but what comes out of it is a chopped pork sandwich served on a bun with cole slaw heavy on the mustard. I had the jumbo version, complete with... More

We stopped at Payne's on our way out of town because I had been told by many that it was some of the best BBQ in Memphis. This little dive outside of downtown was filled with BBQ smoke when we arrived and I left smelling like Memphis BBQ when I got on the airplane (so awesome). The building appears to... More

This place was pretty smokey the day we went, but that didn't stop us from enjoying a half rack of ribs and a jumbo (really just large) chopped pork BBQ sandwich. FYI the medium hot BBQ sauce was mild and sweet, and the hot had a bit of a kick, but not much. The mustard based coleslaw wasexcellent, and if... More

I saw Paynes BBQ on the TV show "This is Us" and had to visit. This by far is the best BBQ I have ever had. On my visits to Memphis I have eaten at some of the known BBQ spots the city has to offer. This by far has been the best. I had the chopped pork and beef... More

Stopped in here for lunch after touring Graceland, and I'm so glad I did. I absolutely loved this place. Payne's BBQ is an old gas station that has been converted into a awesome restaurant. Everything is served on paper plates, it's not fancy, but the food is fantastic! They've been featured on Food Network for a reason. I order the... More

I've been to a lot of restaurants, but if I had to pick one for final meal it would be Paynes. The building doesn't look like much (converted gas station), but don't let that scare you off. I've been to nearly every BBQ place in Memphis and Paynes is my favorite. The sliced pork sandwich with hot sauce is the... More
