Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Had a really enjoyable lunch here. Friendly service and a sea view is always a good start. Lunch was for me started with a chowder. All 4 of us then had massive plates of longoustine and chips. The table looked like a car crash after,...but in a very satisfying way. Looked like there was a nice, separate pub/bar too.More

Good atmosphere, good service, good food. The restaurant has an excellent standard of cooking, and good service. Clearly a place that the locals like to frequent too, always a good sign. Recommended.

Had lunch and a few pints. Seafood chowder and the sirloin sandwich. Good tastes, but nothing special. Bartender/server was very friendly, always asking if you needed something. Lovely view from the table. Also had some pints in their pub next door.

I've eaten in the Lochside countless times over the years and have always enjoyed it The restaurant itself offers the most spectacular setting possible for dining on Islay. It sits directly on Loch Indaal and the restaurant have views across the the loch and Bowmore...pier. It's normally quite a busy place so we'd booked ahead of visitin for our evening meal. Staff were friendly and helpful but obviously short on numbers, with only 1 chef on that evening. The menu is varied and offers a good selection to suit everyone. We had the haggis, neeps and tatties stck to start, followed by katsu chicken and the evening's pasta dish. Food took a little longer than normal to be served but it was worth the wait and we returned cleared plates. We didn't have desserts but the ones we saw other diners have were huge and looked great. As others have said, a service charge is automatically added to your bill but can be removed if requested. If me serves me right ot was 12%, which is around the norm for tipping staff. I'll definitely be back again on my next trip to Islay.More

The Lochside has the most amazing food and is reasonably priced. Wonderful service too. We always eat here at least once when we visit Islay. This year we ate there twice. Beautiful view from the picture windows overlooking Loch Indaal. So popular you must book...in advance.More

Went in for lunch which was OK for the price but when I quiried the bill I was told thete was a service charge which went to the staff but it could be removed if I wanted. Scandalous, who do they think they are trying...to slip a charge on my bill which was not mentioned in the menu. Bear this in mind if you are thinking of going there.More

We were unfortunate to visit when there was a Hen party and a noisy group of Americans. The setting was good, the menu was quite extensive too. I didn’t choose particularly well but the noise level just wanted to make us leave as soon as...possible.More

Stayed in Bowmore for three nights for the Islay whisky festival and ate at the Lochside for two of those. Food great - langoustines on the second night quite superb. The staff were extraordinarily polite and helpful - letting us move tables so that we...had such a great view over the lochMore

Needed to eat whilst charging the car and a local recommended here, was a fantastic choice. Beautiful setting, friendly staff and a very tasty meal. Would happily eat here again and not just for convenience.

The best part of The Lochside Inn Hotel Restaurant is the view over the water from the dining room. The food is pretty much the equivalent of what one would get in the restaurant of a big chain hotel: decent but not great steak, a...somewhat overcooked burger, and good steak fries. The best dish we had was the macaroni and cheese with bacon. Service was efficient. In a town with several good choices close by, we would choose another next time.More
