We were travelling round the Highlands and as a big fan of the George Street Anta shop in Edinburgh, I was so looking forward to visiting the factory shop. We arrived at 1.50pm and upon opening the door were swiftly told they were shutting at 2pm and ushered ( a polite way of putting it) back outside . There was... More

No service, staff unfriendly did not offer to help, the girl just pushed past. Staff didn't seem to care. The Glasgow staff welcomed us, asked if we needed help & were lovely. The shop smelt of stale food (we think it was turnip), which put us off eating anything. Total flop!!

We exited the busy A9 and wound through some very country roads to visit ANTA on the recommendation of some Scottish friends. We expected pottery and other local crafts. Instead, we found a medium sized show room that contained furniture, rugs, and quite literally - carpet bags. There is a small lunch-type counter but we didn't eat there. What we... More

My husband and I visited the Anta shop and cafe the other day. We have already visited the shops in Edinburgh and London. We had read some of the negative reviews which was a bit off-putting. However, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Yes, it is in the middle of a field so I don't know what some people expect. It didn't... More

Had a lovely but overpriced lunch in a very nice bright clean café. Disappointed at the extreme prices on some items. Harris tweed is less expensive. I prefer locally produced items but I think they are way overpriced. My main issue though is with the lack of baby changing facilities. I was forced to change my 4 month old baby... More

Probably best not described as 'factory shop and tearoom'. Well designed space with cafe well off the beaten track. Simple, but carefully cooked and presented, lunch including home made oatcakes and strong coffee. Plus delicious soup and scone. Pleasant, knowledgeable service. Food matches the quality of the fabrics.

We were really looking forward to our trip here as when we lived in Edinburgh Anta was one of our favourite shops. We stopped for lunch at the factory shop which is a small shed in he middle of nowhere and certainly nothing to do with the lovely castle advertised on the website. The food was delicious I had a... Gorgeous soup. Pea and sweetcorn. It was really hot and a generous helping. Best I've tasted. Serves with a lovely big cheese scone by a very lovely lady last Tuesday. I'm going to phone and ask for recipe as not in cook book we bought. Love this place. We wait until Tartan Tuesday for offers.

The picture of the Highland base on line shows a castle so I was disappointed to find some sheds. Also although there were a few seconds of pottery, and we did end up buying a present, I was hoping for more seconds, end of lines, remnants, etc, again as advertised.

I have known Lachie and Annie for over 20 years and watched Anta grow from a shed to what it is now. Recently Tain Rotary Club paid a visit to Anta for a guided tour and supper. Lachie gave us a most informative tour of the workshops and then Annie and staff gave us a wonderful supper of home made... More
