We got a warm welcome as we stepped inside out of the rain ... we were shown to a table in the conservatory. The menu is not huge but there’s enough choice, I went for grilled Haddock. It arrived quickly and was a plate full....Nothing special, but it was good, honest, tasty food. Unusually I had a lemon posset desert and it was very tasty, if expensive. This is a homely establishment, with great service and nice food. Worth a visit if you visit Cromarty.More

Fish n chips excellent, carrot cake excellent Shame about staff who all seem unhappy, stressed and definitely no Scottish welcome. Not sure what’s going on there but customer service has to be paramount and a smile makes a huge difference. Covid adherence was excellent and...spotlessly clean.More

The food is good but the service and personnel touch is sadly missing, we stayed 3 nights , the first two nights we ate in the conservatory overlooking the firth and watched the sunset, the third night we went to the conservatory again to find...the table reserved, at no time did the staff indicate that we should reserve a specific table, when I queried why it wasn’t First come the manager was defensive and even a bit aggressive., not customer friendly , we then discovered that there we’re no shell fish at all despite the menus listing them, this in a hotel located by the Cromarty Firth. I believe the hotel may be up for sale, hardly a surpriseMore

Friendly staff and lovely fresh food. Fresh fish and chips were delicious and a harbour view to enjoy while eating.

We are staying nearby for a few days and we had a recommendation for the lunch at the Royal Hotel, which has opened again to serve meals in a way that takes account of the need for the strictures of COVID-19. The tables are well...separated and there is sanitiser located throughput the premises. We both had the burger with chips and salad, but this was better than a beef burger as it was combined with pulled pork and was really, really tasty there was a choice of the kind of chips you wanted and again these were tasty, mine were skinny and my wife’s were thicker. The service despite wearing visors and masks, was efficient and friendly. The price of the meal was a bit more than you’d have expected but given the extraordinary times we’re living in, quite reasonable, all things considered. Certainly highly recommended. Thank you for an enjoyable lunch.More

The meals were all good. I had venison stew, in a very tasty sauce. They did not have any gluten free beers so I was restricted to red wine (not really a problem).

Was an unplanned visit and had Cullen skink followed by roast beef. Both superb. A very pleasant surprise. Would recommend the food without hesitation

Food was very tasty with a good choice of dishes however the service was awful! Rude waitress, sides missing and didn't even bring enough cutlery, two knives and four forks between five! Didn't look understaffed either, not a very good way to welcome visitors! The...Happy Chappy ale was very good though and definitely worth a try.More

For us, a trip to Cromarty is not complete unless we call into the Royal Hotel for a bowl of Cullen Skink which we think is one of the best in the area! As usual, it was rich and creamy, loaded with soft flaky fish......Delicious! And a portion of home made chips on the side to share (crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside) were perfect. If the weather permits, dine in the conservatory and watch the world go by 😎More

We enjoyed the food here very much. It was a very quiet day when we arrived. The waitress was attentive without being overbearing and the food arrived fairly quickly. The venison burger was delicious and there was plenty of food on the plate. Having finished...our meal we had a lovely chat with the host who was very knowledgeable about the local whisky - of which we tried a few. I can confirm they too were delicious!More
