Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed here for a night while travelling around Achill. Staff were friendly, albeit a bit harried - coming to the end of the season and a lot of their temporary staff had finished up. Dinner in the bar was ok - fish and chips, you...can't really go too badly wrong. Wasn't very atmospheric but Peter did make a point of chatting to everybody. Breakfast in the morning served in a function room downstairs - was a bid cold in the huge room, but cannot fault the service. Breakfast was cooked well and served piping hot. Limited tea and coffee options. Rooms were basic but clean and comfortable. Overall would stay here again - the rate was fantastic and we really just wanted a bed for the night. Looking forward to another trip when they reopen in the Spring.More

After cycling to Achill with a group of 9 we were lucky to find the Achill Sound Hotel/Connaughton Bar. A family run hotel with lots of space and a pool table, ideal for weary cyclists. Plenty of bike parking out the back of the hotel....We were made feel very welcome by the friendly owner. He explained he was short on staff but we were well looked after and enjoyed the outdoor seating out the back as it was a sunny day. There was a beautiful view. There is a full lunch menu and roast dinners available. We got very tasty, freshly made sandwiches and chips with teas/coffees and the children got kids meals. Toilet facilities are very clean and the hotel is dog friendly. Would highly recommend this as a stop off.More

Gate1 tour stopped here after tour of Achill Island (grass, sheep and barren land) for lunch (choice of sandwich (10E) or Sunday roast (20E). I chose the lamb roast and veg which I found to be very tasty especially with the cider on draught.

We had meals and drinks here on 2 different occasions and were made to feel very welcome. Can highly recommend the turkey and ham dinner in particular and Peter, the owner, pours a perfect pint of Guinness! Definitely worth a visit.

Stopped for lunch after 17k cycle from Mulranny. First impression wasn't great as the interior is extremely dated but as it was the only sit-in place to eat on a Sunday afternoon, we had very little choice. Staff were very friendly and helpful - sat...us at a table 10min before opening time. We were pleasantly surprised with the food - simple but fresh and home cooked traditional dishes. Kids pasta and the Achill smoked salmon salad was plain but tasty. He had a roast of the day which was again simple but tasty.More

Great place to stop, staff very welcoming and friendly, creating a nice atmosphere which is tough in these Covid times. Very helpful when we had questions about the area, top notch service and the food was tasty and generous. We enjoyed the picnic tables at...the back in the sun with our two little people, lovely memories to take with us. Thanks to the team :-)More

Stayed elsewhere on the island but booked in for dinner here one night. First and foremost the staff were brilliant, every detail was important to them to ensure that we had a wonderful experience, this was even more impressive in the current climate. Food was...great, fresh and filling all for a very reasonable price, main attraction was the welcoming atmosphere. Would strongly recommend.More

The food was great and credit to the young staff, they were very professional especially during this unusual time. Special mention, We had a very helpful waiter (I'm sorry didn't get his name), he was absolute credit to the hotel, very competent at his job....We felt very safe when getting food in the bar and we left the bikes outside with no issue.More

We came here for lunch, and were pleasantly surprised by the food. Moreover, the service was very nice, and exceedingly helpful. Even though it appears slightly dated, everything has a place; old currency, funny facts and gadgets. Would highly recommend for food. We definitely will...come back on our next tripMore

Had a lovely meal with friendly service. There was a choice of 4/5 starters, main dishes and desserts to choose from. We both went for the chicken curry which came with rice and chips. Then delicious chocolate cake and apple pie. All of which was...delicious 😋. With a pint of Guinness, a soft drink & coffee it came to €43. Would recommend a visitMore
