Had a lovely meal here on our trip to Brooklodge, food was delicious, the scallop starter was so tasty And the fillet steak to follow was cooked to perfection. Our waitress was so professional. Highly recommend

We ate here recently and I found it a tad disappointing. It felt a bit like fine dining by numbers. The dining room itself is very dated and a bit tacky, could use a revamp. Velure walls, reflective ceiling and gaudy light fittings are all...a bit of a celtic tiger reminder. The food was, to my mind, just a bit souless. I had some nice scallops with caulflower shavings and puree to start. In fairness they were cooked well and not bad at all. My partner had some mackerel to start which she enjoyed. Before our starter we both received a morsel compliments of the chef, it was basically a cod croquette. It was served on a tomatoey sauce. Was a bit meh. For the second course there was a palette cleanser of sorbet or the option of a duck egg yolk and wild mushroom. My partner had the sorbet which was also meh. I had the duck yolk and wild mushroom. I was excited to order this. One of the nicest things I ever ate was wild ceps with a hens egg yolk. I thought this would be similar. Nope, overcooked yolk ( would have been nicer raw) and 3 teeny tiny pieces of mushroom, I think possibly rehydrated chantrelle, but I could be wrong. There was also some kind of reduction, possibly balsamic? Anyhow, was very forgettable. For main I ordered the cod in a seaweed sauce. It was cooked perfectly and was super delicate, however, the seasoning was non existent and the sauce was insipid. My partner ordered the steak. It was not very well seasoned and again, although cooked to order, it was just a bit boring... We were given some veg to share, potato dauphinoise, green beans and honey roasted parsnip. These were perfect with the steak but had no plaice with my fish : ) For desert I ordered sour cherry and white chocolate parfait. It was a really nice desert. Sour cherry, white chocolate parfait ,chocolate truffle, boozy soaked sponge morsels.... it was a deconstructed black forrest! Good fun! My wife had a very solid cheese plate. All in all it was an ok meal, but based on this visit we wouldn't be in a hurry to get back.More

I really enjoyed our delicious starter and dessert here and the traceability of all their food is refreshing. The tables are very well spaced and all the staff wear masks, it was very reassuring and relaxing. At very short notice, they kindly presented a Birthday...dessert to my friend and he was delighted. Thank you!More

I was extremely disappointed with my experience at the Strawberry Tree. The staff were very kind and lovely however they seemed very inexperienced and quite clueless for a Michelin star restaurant. They had no knowledge of the menu or the dishes being served, when my...partner asked what ounce the Steak was the response was “I don’t know, probably 6oz.” This was never confirmed. When I asked about vegetarian dishes she seemed unsure and when I asked how the only vegetarian main was served she seemed unsure too and replied “it’s just a selection of vegetables”. I would not recommend this restaurant for vegetarians as the menu is very limited and basic. There were some other issues we had while dinning. We were given a glass of water when we were seated at our table, these glasses where never refilled. The food was also extremely slow to be served, we were seated in the restaurant at 8:45 and our plates from our mains where cleared at 10:20, we intended to order desert but where left sitting at our tableMore

I unfortunately left the Strawberry Tree very underwhelmed. I was hoping and expecting so much more from a restaurant that bills itself so highly as the first organic restaurant in Ireland, I honestly thought that after 30 years of doing this they would it down...to a tee, they don’t. The wine selection is probably the only food thing about the place, and they don’t make that they just pour it. I wouldn’t bother making the journey out here to try, but if you’re staying at the hotel and the other restaurant is full then I guess you should try The Strawberry Tree.More

Menu changes monthly. Even the things that sounded a bit odd on the menu were very good. If they have duck, get it. One of the better steaks I have ever had. If the chocolate plate is available for dessert get it as well. Very...attentive wait staff. Nice timing between courses.More

We booked a New Years Eve package at the Strawberry Tree Macreddin consisting of pre meal bubbly, tasting menu with wine and New Years Eve entertainment in a "pub" on the grounds. We were led to believe that there were to be fireworks at midnight....as...there were the previous year. We were extremely disappointed with the meal, minuscule quantities and reduced amount of courses left one starving! Service was poor and elongated..we sat down at 7.30 and finished meal at 11.00pm...we then retired to the "pub" for the "entertainment " which consisted of a guy and a guitar. There was no seating provided in the room reserved for the "entertainment ". As we approached midnight the singer was oblivious to the time....earlier he asked did anyone know the words to Auld Langs Syne because he didnt... midnight came and went and was ignored by the singer..despite prompting from some of the guests. To cap it all..no fireworks! A total shambles! On checking out we mentioned these concerns to the receptionist..I have to say in all my years travelling..and they are a lot..she was the rudest grumpiest person I have ever encountered in customer service. She would be better employed herding cattle. We paid nearly €500 for pleasure of having New Years Eve ruined.More

Our experience was as good as it has always been. The key to a good restaurant is consistency and the Strawberry tree most certainly has that with the food, the service, the ambience and those little touches that make a memorable meal. Special thanks for...accommodating our toddler and arranging for our dessert to be brought to our room when the tiredness got too much for him. We look forward to our returnMore
