Myself and my boyfriend visited last night for a date night and were warmly greeted at the front door (I think the owner). The staff were friendly, especially the lovely blonde lady who served us, and the ambience is very romantic and cosy with real candles at the tables. We both had the duck pate which was amazing and a very generous portion for a starter arriving on a large plate. It could have done with a little more of the port glaze but that’s just my personal tastes. My boyfriend had the game pie and said the meat was lovely and tender. The pie also came with a generous amount of pastry. I had one of the specials - salmon with chorizo mash and saffron hollandaise - which was so tasty and again a generous portion. Desserts were the crunchie cheesecake and the sticky toffee pudding (a special for the night) which were both great. Our only suggestion is that the website is updated so the menu is in line with the menu when you get there, as the one online is showing dishes not available at the restaurant now. We will definitely be visiting again!

Myself and my husband went there tonight, the staff were absolutely brilliant. The wine was fab and it was great that they had a non alcoholic Erdingher beer for my husband as he was driving. The food was good, we’ve had a little bit nicer (We’ve been in 5 star restaurants and this food was better than some of the five stars) but we’d definitely be back because there was loads to choose from and we both want to try other dishes. Well worth a visit to this restaurant, as the prices were very reasonable. If this restaurant keep the price range and menu they will be here for another 30 years. Well done to all the staff in house and kitchen, we’d a lovely evening, thank you.

It was not easy to find a restaurant which would cater for the family (aged from 2 years to 70+) and with a wide variety of dietary requirements but the Hungry Monk fulfilled all our needs and we had a wonderful celebration of our Golden Wedding. The children loved not just their food but the fact that they had a choice of menu and the adults' only difficulty was in deciding which of the mouth-watering dishes we would eat. The service was friendly, efficient and unobtrusive. It was our first visit as we don't live nearby but we will be back.

On 21/9/20 I contacted The Hungry Monk and requested a table for four at 7:30pm on 28/9/20. My booking was accepted by the Restaurant. Our party of four were on a two day break at Druids Glen Resort and Spa, a trip we take almost every year and routinely our trip involves a visit to The Hungry Monk, a restaurant where we have had great meals in the past. On 28/9/20 we got a taxi from the Hotel to The Hungry Monk(20-25 Euro each way), on arrival we discovered that it was closed. My wife made contact with the Restaurant via Messenger, we were told that our booking had not been put in the book and the 28/9/20 was the start of their Winter closing nights, Julian provided us with his “sincerest apologies” and the names of approx 4 other eating locations within the local area, we tried the closest of these only to be told they were fully booked, we returned to the hotel by taxi(another 25 euro journey). This is a totally unsatisfactory service by The Hungry Monk and an exceptionally poor method of managing the situation. Julian apologised but made no offer of trying to accommodate us on another night (We could have visited the following night as it was a 2 night break), Julian would have established this fact had he spent a short period of time adequately dealing with customers that he or another member of staff had let down so badly. This is evidence of very poor customer service by The Hungry Monk, I have all the communication within this debacle that proves my point. I did return to Greystones on 29/9/20 and we had a meal in another Restaurant, it was fabulous and had very attentive staff, shame on you Hungry Monk!!!! Looks like my annual trip will have a new eating location, perhaps The Hungry Monk only show attentive customer care if your a celeb or well known as illustrated within their social media posts, as I’m not a sports star or pop star then who cares???

Hi Undetectable It is with great disappointment and sorrow that I read your recent review of our restaurant. I note on a positive that you’ve had some great meals in the past with us 😀It’s a great pity that you didn’t feel those experiences with us warranted a TA review!!! Just sayin. Unfortunately we overlooked to contact you regarding the fact that we had decided to close on Mondays for the Winter, starting last Monday. Human error for which I apologised profusely 3 times to your wife and indeed offered 4 alternative venues that do open on Mondays. Just for some balance and equity the next communication I had from yourselves was at 22:14 the next night(Tuesday)enquiring if a ‘gesture’ would be forthcoming to entice you back in the future!! Once again many apologies and delighted to hear that you found another venue locally that you were most satisfied with. From all the team at the Hungry Monk.

I rang the restaurant to make a booking as we had heard great things about it..I left a message but also rang back to see if we had any chance of a table. The man who answered the phone recognised my voice and was happy to accommodate us. We had the most fantastic meal. Starters were cod and chorizo fish cakes and mushroom fritters..all delicious. Mains were Trawlersman risotto and steak. Again the food was all fresh, very tasty and delicious. Portions were so good we didn't have room for dessert. I hope we get to go back soon. Definitely worth a visit and you won't regret it but booking is advisable. Looking forward to a return trip soon

Really disappointed with our overall experience in the Hungry Monk. We booked a table for two. When we got there, we realised pretty quickly that they were understaffed. We waited for our table. We ordered a starter and 2 main courses. We got our starter 50 minutes after putting in the order. I’m 7 months pregnant and felt sick with hunger. When I asked about our starter I was told by the waitress that the kitchen staff were “hammered”, no apologies given. The tortellini pasta dish was lovely and the risotto was tasteless. I’m not sure if that was as a result of it being rushed out. We used the sauce from the pasta to add flavour to the risotto. I was a waitress for many years and would have always apologised for food being served late or made up for it in some way. We wouldn’t have booked a table had we of known it would take so long to serve the food. Overall a very disappointing experience.

Thanks to the owners and staff at the Hungry Monk! We had a wonderful night last Friday - celebrating a 50th birthday, and couldn't have enjoyed it more. The owners and staff looked after us really well, and helped us out with keeping the dinner a surprise for the birthday boy. The food was delicious - and they indulged him when he asked if they had a fillet steak instead of the sirloin which was on the menu (he thought it was fantastic when he tucked in). They also allowed us to bring our own cake, and led the singing when it was coming to the table, which made us feel very welcome. It was a great night, and we're very happy to see the Hungry Monk going strong again.

Service charge of 10% that was not mentioned or shown online for below par service at best. There were 3 of, i had chicken which was tasteless and appeared to be frozen as bones were black and certainly not free range as stated. Also kept taking mask down.

We had been staying at Druids Glen for a few nights and had seen this restaurant on trip advisor. I foolishly did'nt book in advance as it was closed Mon, Tues. We arrived on the Wednesday night at 5.30pm hoping to get a table, thinking it would be quiet mid week. Wrong. The nice gentleman who I suspect is the owner, informed us they were fully booked and he only had a couple of seats at the bar. We initially turned down the offer and he wisely offered to show us the bar seats. It was actually a nice quaint, cosy little corner of the building where no-one would be bumping into you or bothering you. On taking up the offer, we were given some water, drinks ordered and food chosen from what was a decent selection on the menu. We both ordered fillet steak which comes with peppered sauce, sauted onions and skin on chips. We had additional sides of champ and onion rings. The wait was'nt long. Well, this has to be up there with one of the best fillet steak diners we have had...ever. And the onion rings...amazing. In fact we were that full after the mains we could not face desert. The price was very good and on looking around at other plates all the food looked 1st class, especially the fish and scampi. So glad we took up the offer of those bar stools. Great food and lovely staff. Hopefully be back some time....with a booking.

Have eaten here more times than I can count . The food is always amazing! Steak is the best, I’ve yet to find better and on a Sunday the roast beef is out of this world . This restaurant is perfect for any occasion, birthdays , family meals or cosy couples night out . Highly recommend it .

We had lunch here in late December. We had eaten here before and the food was very nice. We were served by a very pleasant local young lady who was working part time and also studying (we made sure to give her a good tip which she really appreciated). We were the only people in the part of the restaurant that we were put in. The owner sat on a bar stool the whole time, looking at us. It made us feel very awkward. Also, the place was absolutely freezing so we weren't comfortable and didn't enjoy the nice food as much as we should have. I appreciate that we are in difficult times but some things like heating are an essential.

We first found this gem 5 years ago by happy accident. Planned our return visit today and we were greeted warmly and had the most enjoyable meal. Drinks, starters, mains, desserts all fantastic, atmosphere was great and the service was attentive and we felt like old friends. Hopefully back again within five years. On looking back at my photos from our last visit, I realised I’d had the same starter last time, just as delicious. Would definitely recommend

I've been going here for years for two very simple reasons - quality and consistency! This is a restaurant that consistently serves outstanding meals but is not content to rest on this. It is the quality of service that distinguishes The Hungry Monk from initial welcome to the end of the evening, feeling completely sated and always more than satisfied. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly but never intrusive. In short, a treat to anticipate, a dining experience to enjoy and a memory to savour.

Staff where very friendly and food was great. Would recommend for the food and service. Issue I have is that nobody asked for our name or number upon entering nor did they ask the table beside us. When leaving my wife said to one staff member at the reception area that they didn't take our names or numbers. She said,oh thats fine I think yous will be ok!!! My wife said no and gave our name and number. Bit disappointing with the situation the country is in and considering the lovely food and welcome shown. Would recommend for food but obviously Covid contact tracing needs hugh improvement.

Got a booking here recently on a Saturday night and the place was packed. We both fancied a steak so went for their Cote de Boeuf for two. OMG, was enormous and cooked to perfection. Was great value at €74 including chips, onions etc. No room for dessert but with a bottle of house wine we agreed it was great value at €120 including a tip. Looking forward to a return visit soon.
