I have been eating in Mayur for years both in the restaurant and by take out. Getting a takeaway from Mayur is a bit far away for us, it's a 20minute drive but it is always worth the wait. I had a meal In Mayur last night that was fabulous. Best meal I had there so far. I work with Indian people who have made home cooked Indian food for me before and because of this I can say that what I had last night was authentic! Onion Bhaji was really good. My wife always gets the Balti which i always have to taste as it is really flavoursome. I usually go for something very hot like the vindaloo or chilli masala but last night i had the jalfrezi which was yum. The service is fast but friendly! Always the same staff who are excellent! I look forward to going back. Excellent A+++ 5☆ 10/10.

I am a regular visitor to Mayur, what a fantastic Indian Restaurant, the food is amazing whether dining in or takeaway. I have never had a bad meal in Mayur. They have the best staff too always spot on when recommending various dishes. Friendly from the minute you arrive until you leave. The restaurant is always busy. It has a buzzing atmosphere every time. I would highly recommend this restaurant, you will not be disappointed.

My girlfriend and I have visited to the Mayur at least once a month for the past few months and we absolutely love it there.
My girlfriend is a fairly fussy eater and (although the restaurant was busy) the staff at the Mayur were very accommodating and extremely friendly and they helped recommend foods/tastes and spice levels that she would possibly enjoy. She loved every bite of the meal and clears her plate each time we visit.
Can't wait to return there again (and again and again) in the future!

I placed my order online and I was waiting over an hour to collect it. While placing the order online it did not indicate that there would be a delay. When my order did eventually arrive the guy working there didn't apologise for the delay or offer any compensation for the delay. When I arrived home with my order the food had spilled in the bag because they hadn't been packed properly. Not a restaurant I will be returning to in the future.

We travelled to Portlaoise for a family funeral and were recommended this restaurant by our cousin who is a local. Two ordered the samosa which were a delightful treat - no soggy bottoms here, they were light and really tasty our 5 main courses were a mix of two chicken dishes and a balti I can't remember the name of what I picked, but it was chicken stuffed with the most beautiful filling and the sauce was very mild which is my personal preference the bottle of marques we risqal rueda went great with the food and was very reasonably priced The staff were very nice and the main man was helpful moving us to another table when we arrived so that we would have more room I would definitely recommend highly this restaurant and when in Portlaoise next time it will be on my places to eat list. I felt very safe as protocol was followed with regard to Covid . Well done chef you made our night as did the two gents out front

We went to Mayur for our dinner and it was some of the most delicious Indian food we've ever had. The chana masala in particular was so full of flavour.
The atmosphere was lovely and inviting. The servers were very warm and friendly and went above and beyond to make us feel at home. When we were finished our meal, the manager offered us a complimentary Bailey's. Would definitely recommend to anyone!

I don’t know what happened between all the great reviews on here and our visit, but having read the great reviews here I was looking forward to some great dishes.
Sadly I was greatly disappointed with each of the dishes we ordered - they were the least authentic Indian dishes I have ever tasted. The flavour was flat and lifeless, and nothing like any version of the dishes we had had before or like the usual rich experience of Indian food. For example the butter chicken tasted like a tin of tomato soup with curry powder added - not the rich creamy flavoursome dish I’ve had anywhere else. The Patia and Dopiaza were equally poor. Even the three relishes/chutneys were sub-par.
I really don’t like leaving negative reviews, much preferring to give praise where praise is due, and to support great food establishments. Before posting this review I emailed them about it, but received no reply.
Maybe their chef was off or away, or maybe they have changed chefs, but sadly this was a real let down for us.

By far the best Indian restaurant I’ve ever been to. Whenever I have friends over I bring them to Mayur and every single person has said they have never tasted better Indian food. The samosa starter is amazing - spinach and goats cheese. The chicken lababdar is a winner for me for mains. By far the best food in the county - if you’re passing through you must try it. Friendliest staff imaginable.

We took the family out to celibrate our sons 20th Birthday
We had booked a table for five people but when we arrived we were placed at a tabe set for four so I ended up sitting at the isle. Athmosphere quiet good except there was two different types of music playing which contradicted the traditional indian music.
Food was good but extortionately priced with the average main course costing €23 and this was without side orders, if you wanted rice, chips etc that was all extra. I would have left when I seen the prices but only for the celebration.
I felt I had been held up.

Best Indian in Portlaoise
Extremely friendly staff, excellent vegetarian options.
Every dish you order is packed full of flavour. Some favourites would be the saag paneer, paneer narangi, aloo ghobi and lamb madras. Always our first choice for takeout!

Popped in with no reservation early in the evening prior to seeing a movie in the nearby cinema. Restaurant was already buzzing early on a week night, around 20 people obviously enjoying their food and the beautiful, cosy setting of the restaurant. The friendly waiter fitted us in at short notice and we are so glad he did. It's a little bit pricier than most Indian restaurants but once the food arrived, we could understand why. Everything is absolutely made from scratch and fresh, portion sizes are very generous and the service is second to none. We ordered seekh kebab and chilli pork stirfry to start, both incredibly tasty, the smells made our mouths water! I went for a lamb curry, labelled as "hot" on the menu and my partner opted for karahi chicken, described as medium heatwise. Both dishes were absolutely delicious and the flavours were sensational but both could have been hotter spice wise. We will definitely be back to sample more authentic, beautiful Indian food and look forward to visiting this gorgeous restaurant again.

I went to Mayur today with my father. I have a few food intolerances/allergens. I also don't eat all meats. This made it hard to find something on the menu I could eat and would like. The server that was with us today went through the menu entire with me to find something suitable for me to eat. Ensuring that my food was free from my allergens and intolerances. He knew everything about eat dish.
At the end we were given chocolates and the server checked in with me to make sure that I could eat it and didn't have a dairy intolerance or milk allergy.
I was very impressed by the care and attention given and the level of service.
I'm studying hospitality management and have looked at and researched customer service before. I was very happy with the service I had.
Food was also super yummy

As a family we met for a meal last week in Portlaoise as it was a mid point from Bandon and Drumshanbo. It was our first visit to Mayur and what a visit. The main courses of a Chicken Jalfrezi, Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka and Special Biryani were superb, a meal taste of India. Service was excellent, all meals served together. The restaurant was tranquil, the background music suited the atmosphere and mood, nothing was rushed. Certainly the best food and atmosphere with service that we've experience in an Irish Indian restaurant in a long long time. We recon Mayur is Leinsters best kept secret and we will be visiting again in the coming weeks.

They were able to fit us in on a busy Saturday night as we travelled home, hungry, after a long day out. Food was phenomenally tasty. Very pleasant atmosphere. Very friendly staff. One of us is vegan and was catered for very well.
I don’t live in Portlaoise but if I did it’d be my go-to for Saturday night take-out. 5-stars

I been a few times and each time have had a great experience. The welcome and service throughout are excellent and the atmosphere in this busy restaurant is cosy and relaxing. The menu is extensive and each dish I tasted was cooked to perfection, really very tasty. I will happily return again when visiting friends and family. Highly recommended.
