We visited the storeyard and went into Tynan restaurant for some food. Its a Carvery styled restaurant located in a lovely antique store. The food is all homemade smells and tasted delicious. We both had the roast of the day which was turkey & ham,...big portions and didn't have room for dessert, which is just an excuse to go again to try them out. The staff are so helpful and friendly which is lovely a hidden treasure. Thank you for the amazing service and delicious food.More

This is an unusual spot hidden well away and so worth a visit. A feast of antiquities followed by a spot of lunch is just the thing. We were there late in the afternoon and not much was left but delicious quiche, sausage rolls and...salads were available. We were refueled and ready for the road again. An earlier visit is recommended.More

We stopped for afternoon tea here recently. It has always been a favourite stop over for me enroute to Athlone. Great choice of cakes and desserts too. But I couldn't believe the price increase! Practically all cake slices and desserts €5.15. Only one dessert lemon...drizzle cake was less than that at €4.30. I had this. It was nice. My daughter opted for a rice crispie square which we assumed was cheaper only to find when we paid, that it was €5.15 too Definitely OTT. Considering the location and it being day time I think the prices are too high. Our server said this is because of the increase in VAT and the quality of the ingredients. It's a pity about the prices but a nice place to eat and food is good.More

Jim Tynan's sadly missed deli had an atmosphere and ethos which was welcoming and soothing like a warm blanket and this is carried on here by his sister. The staff are remarkable for appearing to love their jobs at which they are very good. The...food was delicious , flavoursome, home cooked and good value for money and the only quandary was what to take home for later!More

It’s in an industrial estate inside a warehouse full of fabulous antique furniture props, vintage clothing and just fabulous set. The chef used to run the kitchen of Jim’s Kitchen a really great deli reataurant in Portlaoise for years, now gone as Jim sadly passed...away. The cakes and food is cooked and baked daily and the portions are for farmers so the small portion is huge! I would detour any day off the motorway to find this place it’s a total gem and the staff and totally brilliant with great Irish humor - midlanders! If you get to tast the coffee cake, Christmas pudding or apple cake made here your bucket list will be complete. It’s the tops of my places in the country right now. Only have photos of the shop which is called The Stone Yard. Tynans is at the back of the warehouse.More

One of my first food hero’s was Jim Tynan the original owner of this restaurant who set the standard for how food should be cooked. Ingredients fresh and in season. Great variety. Catering for all tastes. Wonderful chef and person 😥🙏 Jim died a few...years ago and was a huge loss to Portlaoise and the town and to all who loved him. His sister took over the mantle and has not let the side down. Standards maintained. excellent home made food and lovely staff who have been there for many years. I can’t really big it up enough ❤️👍 Added to which the setting is wonderful as it is embalmed in the middle of a treasure trove of antiques. Expensive but wonderful to mooch around before lunch. I would advise giving a miss during peak lunch times as sometimes it can be jam packed and you might not get a table. If you can’t get seating go to Kelly Lou cakes. Also excellent.More

I have only ever gone to tynans before for lunch, so I decided to try breakfast.... I Went for breakfast the other day and was greatly disappointed, very pricy and had to wait a while for things and some of the cutlery was quite grubby,...I also think they should offer some more toast as for 4 people at a table a few slices of toast isn't enough I will have to think about going again..More
