I love this cafe and visit it regularly. However, my last 2 visits have been disappointing. Today I had eggs benedict, which overall was nice, but the hollandaise sauce had quite a tang to it. Last month I had chicken quiche takeaway, and could not...eat it as it was very dry. Twice at lunch time I waited so long for my meal that I had to leave and go back to work hungry! I waited over 30 minutes. Otherwise the staff are super friendly and the coffee is very good.More

We arrived just before 4 pm when the kitchen closed at 4:30pm so weren’t expecting the warm welcome we received. The young woman brought us to our table while chatting about the weather, holidays etc. she was very friendly. We are an awkward family. I’m...a coeliac and my daughter is allergic to nuts. We were talked through the menu and the waiter checked with the kitchen to be sure that my daughter’s order was okay. The sandwiches were delicious. Very fresh and well filled. The salads were terrific. My coffee was excellent. I was delighted to see that there was a choice of gluten free treats and the cake I had was lovely.More

Fabulous place with the most beautiful walled garden. The scones were the nicest that we have ever tasted and really enjoyed our time there. Pop into the Nook and Cranny an amazing gift shop where you can browse a selection of unique gifts.

The cakes here all looked lovely and so I was spoiled for choice. I wasn't to keen on the lunch menu. The walled garden menu was not at all to my liking and I love a good salad. I felt like they had tried to...be posh with their salads but I'd suggest maybe to keep it a little more simple. Very enjoyable coffee ☕️ Pleasant staff The portion sizes are very generousMore

Was really disappointed today when I visited the pantry with my family. The staff was lovely and we where shown to out seats. With a lot of dietary requirements I was looking for something quite basic. There was nothing at all on the menu that...really took my initial fancy. Normally when I eat out in a cafe I get scrambled egg or a plain salad. I couldn't have eggs as they finish serving before lunch time. So I was happy enough to go with a salad until I was told its all mixed together with all sorts of things. Noodles mustard and much more. They have so many salads but have put them in bowls with lots of other things instead of being able to serve separate. So I just ordered white bread sandwich with ham and a coffee. When the sandwich came I couldn't believe what I was handed. What a joke. Although I was charged less I still wouldn't hand someone that in a cafe. I got a coffee which was absolutely gorgeous and I had some cheesecake which was also gorgeous. I would go again if I had to but only for desserts and coffee. I couldn't fault the staff for friendliness but overall I was disappointed with the lunch menuMore

This is a gem of a cafe. We stopped here as a halfway point on our journey and it was well worth stopping off at. If in Portlaoise I would highly recommend it. The produce was very fresh and the staff were so helpful. There...is a great choice on the menu. Two choices of soup on and the cakes/desserts are delicious. I had the turkey blaa, a cup of vegetable soup and the coffee and walnut cake and it was all beautiful. We even got some takeaway chocolate biscuit cake to bring with us. We will definitely stop again on our return journey home. Well done and thanks to all at the pantry.More

Popped into the Pantry for a quick lunch and it was really good. The service by the friendly staff is top class, given the current crisis in the hospitality sector it was so refreshing to experience a well run friendly establishment like the pantry. Our...food was delicious. The selection of cakes and pastries was Also really good if not too tempting. If your Portlaoise please pop in and sample there great food.More

Visited on a Saturday morning in December. Covid guidelines well followed. NIcely decorated and a bit of Christmas spirit on display which was nice. I went for the broiche French Toast with bacon and spiced apple butter with tea. I was asked if I needed...sugar with the tea which is a great thing to be asked as I don’t take sugar in tea and it can be wasteful to hand it out with every order only to have the unused sachets thrown afterwards. Tea arrived out promptly and it wasn’t too long a wait for the food. The syrup drizzled over the dish didn’t look or taste like maple syrup which is a pet dislike of mine, the maple flavoured golden syrup is much cheaper but just looks like cutting corners and I always find it isn’t doesn’t soak in well to French toast as it's that much thicker than maple syrup. The bread slices were very thick which would usually be a plus in my book but in this case there was very little of the egg coating to give the ratio of egg to bread that makes French toast worth ordering in the first place. The bacon was very good and well cooked, the spiced apple butter was nice too and I’d imagine made on the premises. I couldn’t understand for the price why proper maple syrup couldn’t be used and why the bread couldn’t be soaked in the egg mix a bit longer before frying. I ate one of the two slices and left the second. I was asked on paying how I’d found it and gave pretty much the feedback I’m giving here, the staff member did listen but didn’t give much of a response. I would say the baked treats looked very good and I’d try those if I were in the town again. There’s definitely people with good ideas running the place and with an understanding of food and flavours but I’d hold back from having a brunch there again myself.More

Beautiful setting sitting in the heated outdoor area of the walled garden out back. I had a vegan decaf cappuccino with the vegan sausage roll. So tasty. Service excellent.
