just great food!

went here with my significant other valentines night, for the early 6pm sitting. very impressed by the interior and the friendliness of the staff. the chef, cooking in full view of the restaurant, was cheery and chatty. we had the wings, which were enormous and tasty and for from the specials menu. 1 gripe, when describing the specials to you, the waiter should really advise of the price of each dish. anyhoooo, herself had a cod skillet which was large and tasty, myself the chicken shishkebab.. again large and delicious. all in all a little pricey, but unlike some other places, good value. after we entered the main bar Roaches, to enjoy a few after dinner drinks, which were very reasonably priced. highly recommend and will call again!!

Very different restaurant.

My partner and I went to the Grill Shack in North Kildare for the first time last night, and we felt we were transported out of Ireland to a restaurant near a beach in Greece. The restaurant was extremely informal, and looked like it was built from bits and pieces found on this beach in Greece, in a very charming and inivatative way with whatever was to hand. Diners surrounded the kitchen area on three sides. I could see people having a joke with the congenial chef. The food was also different from the usual Irish fare. We happily shared a starter of very tasty ribs, And then on to the mains - my partner had a 10oz steak which he had to cook himself on a hot stone accompanied by a small salad and a paper bowl of tasty chips with 3 little dips for his steak. He cooked the tender steak to well done, the way he likes it. I had hake with prawns served in a bowl, with a creamy seafood broth. I loved every bite. I also had a salad and chips. His garlic butter went really well with my chips. My partner had an orange drink from the bar and I had one glass of wine. Dress was very informal, some people fitting in nicely with shorts and runners. We paid approximately €60 which I thought was a tad steep for the informality of the place, however we will definitely be back, sooner rather than later to explore the menu further, especially the dessert menu.

Very nice, near Donadea Forest

We visited after an afternoon in Donadea Forest. Staff were very young but friendly and attentive. The restaurant was casual and the chef added to the atmosphere with his personality and interaction with the customers. We had the nachos and double beef burger, followed by the brownie sundae for dessert. We ordered a children’s pasta for our son which was very generous in size. All were very nice. If I’m being a little picky, the nachos and sundae could have been presented slightly better, especially for the price. Overall, the food was good if a little expensive. We enjoyed our visit and may return in the future.

Overall disappointing experience!

A group of us came here for a reunion birthday. I had heard great reviews so had great expectations. Its in the middle of the nowhere, looks good from the outside with good outdoor lighting and seating. The inside is a different story, very compact, very narrow, very tight seating arrangement, very hot. I was looking forward to a steak but did not want a steak on the stone as whilst on the stone the steak keeps cooking and I like it rare, so when I asked if the chef could cook me a rare steak instead of a steak on the stone, I was told that this was not an option!! At the end of the day, I paid for a steak that I cooked/overcooked on a stone myself. With Covid 19, I found the restrictions in place, not great. The staff had masks but customer mask wearing was not being enforced whilst waiting for seating. The table we were at was very very cramped. The board on which the steak on the stone came out on was so big that each one took over a good portion of the table. We ourselves were so cramped that I was forced to eat without being able to move my elbows from my sides, very very uncomfortable.! This shack may be more suited to couples, as they cannot cater comfortably and safely for larger groups.

Good Food but the Manager left a bad taste

OK. so a couple of things. First the food is on point. It's a narrow menu but what they do the do well. Burgers are great and the skillet of haddock fish dish was beautiful, its basically a chowder. The baskets the burgers & fries come in are too small. I can't be bothered waiting for a steak to cook on a stone so it's a turn off for me but that just a personal thing. Beers in the pub are beautiful and the atmosphere is great. Everyone who goes here knows the craic with the pub etc So here's the deal. It's clear the Manager has had zero hospitality training. Rude, abrupt and confrontational.... obviously so. This was my second visit and same behavior. Everyone in our group commented on it. If he is in charge of the ( very young ) waiting staff God knows how he's treating them. Chef in the open plan kitchen is upbeat guy and you can see he's the one building the atmosphere and he enjoys what he is doing. Bottom line, you will enjoy yourself here but you will think twice about returning because of the Manager in the restaurant.

Mouthwatering food lovely location

Really enjoyable meal last night with our friends. Atmosphere was lovely even in these covid times. Staff are extremely attentive and very friendly. Overall a lovely outdoor dining experience. Food as alwqys was fantastic. My husbands steak burger which on the specials menu was hands down the best burger he has ever eaten. My fish was very tasty with a beautiful thin crispy batter. Rotisserie chicken, nachos, key lime pie all faultless. Lovely to see the food cooked in front of us. Great to be out and about again and this was worth waiting for!

Food and staff outstanding

Call here when passing today. I’ve tried calling before on my way by but always busy. I was earlier today and call In. The food is gorgeous and was not disappointed at all. There was a few of us so we had most items on the menu no one could fault it, staff were so Friendly and helpful it was a joy. The only reason I did not give them the top rating could be a bit cleaner. We will still be calling in when passing by.

We visited for a special family meal as a farewell dinner for our son and grand kids returning to the USA. eat outdoors in garden. The table was needing maintenance and some paint. Some of us chose steak, this was a mistake. One of us decided to have Eton mess for dessert, instead of meringue in it they chose to put broken up digestive biscuits. When we mentioned this to waitress she said there was no delivery of meringues that day. However, he was not advised when ordering that there were no meringues. We have always been satisfied in the past when eating here and recommended to many friends. Not any more. Sadly will not be returning

Came for a late lunch on a

Came for a late lunch on a Thursday. Welcomed by a very friendly team, the service was excellent. Beautiful setting and great atmosphere. Had chicken wings with the head chef’s original hot sauce to start, they were amazing, best I have tasted (we left with several jars of the sauce!). Main was a rib eye steak on the stone, mouth still watering at the thought of it. The review wouldn’t do the desert justice, we left very full. Don’t pass this place by.

Always a great feed.

The food here is always excellent. We've been a few times each year since it opened at Roche's and love the burgers, steaks and sides the chef's serve up. They're doing a great job of following all covid protocol with masks worn by staff and screens up between tables etc. I always look forward to going back for a great feast and a pint.

Excellent service and food

We had such a lovely dining experience there on Saturday night. The outdoor dining is laid out very well and very covid safe. Service was excellent and very attentive, they regularly checked in on us to make sure we were ok for everything. Thank you for a brilliant night, will definitely be back. Would recommend the fillet steak on the hot stone and wings (delicious sauce).

The Grill Shack, our new happy place for a fun experience!!!!

Well we were looking for somewhere to grab a quick bite, in fact we were just going to grab a take away. The logo was what caught our attention and drew us in. Once entering the Shack we were welcomed by the chefs in the open plan kitchen. We were given a table even with no reservation and service was very good indeed. We decided to dine in rather than take away, we shared a chicken nachos, truffle fries, small wings (best wings ever and that is saying something) with the chefs med hot sauce, the panko shrimpchips and amazing salad and washed it all down with a nice cold Sauvignon Blanc and 00 Heineken. We also discovered that they sell bottles of their home made sauces, of course we bought a bottle. This sauce has the most flavours, we had the medium hot sauce, a little heat for sure in the end. Amazing food, nice service, we found our happy place, fun happy food. we will return for sure.

I couldn't wait to try the famous rositerre chicken which a friend had recommended. Apparently they are on display cooking and are mouth watering.. Sadly when we arrived, there were no sign of any chickens cooking and where we were seated was uncomfortably cold with both doors front and rear wide open and a strong breeze throughout our visit. We duly ordered our chicken which was rubbery and black in color and certainly not anything like the recommendation given. No sign of a chef either. Would be hard pressed to return,

Lovely from start to finish

A wonderful experience from start to finish! As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted by the chef, then showed to our table. The chicken wings were beautifully crispy and tasted amazing, but the showstopper was the hot chicken burger. It was so tender and full of flavour. To top it off the waitresses were absolutely sensational - they were very attentive and absolutely lovely. Can’t wait to try the hot sauces we bought after our meal, but we’ll definitely be back!

Fantastic Fillet Steak

Just back from a fantastic meal at the Grill Shack. We had fillet steak served on hot stone, chilli burger, bbq burger and haddock meals. All were delicious. Desserts also, had key lime pie, brownie sundae and a very cute idea of coffee with mini dessert which was a small amount of each of their main desserts!! Can't wait for our next meal there! I personally love the atmosphere and the shack look. Tables perfect for seating 4 as the boards for the steak are quite large.
