great food and plenty off it, service is good and plates are hot. staff very attentive and pleasant and a good selection of drinks. My other review gives more detail on breakfast in the library, which is a different story.

We found the staff very pleasant and helpful. Perhaps not the most knowledgeable but young and eager to please. Wine list was very good. Some very good choices in my opinion. Not the most extensive wine list I've ever come across but some good well...known wines are available. I was very happy with the wine list. I liked the decor. It's a very pleasant place to be. Well finished with good quality furnishings and proper cloth napkins. The food while good with some nice touches and generous portions, just lacked that something special. No complaints though. We enjoyed the meal.More

For some reason it had been a very long time since I ate in the Virginia Restaurant and having noticed it had dropped way down the list in terms of its Tripadvisor ratings, I had assumed it must have gone downhill.... I was wrong. The...service was friendly and attentive and the food was excellent. I had garlic mushrooms served with a lovely salad to start, steak served with mash, onion rings and a generous selection of veg for the main (there was a supplement on the steak as expected) and a massive apple cider crumble to finish. All in all it was excellent and I look forward to my next visit again soon.More
On Saturday night even though they were very busy, they squeezed us in and despite the busyness, the service and attentiveness from the staff was excellent. food was extremely fresh and beautifully prepared with very generous portions. the Maudlins always makes an excellent Caesar salad...and their apple and blackberry crumble was simply delicious. A lovely restaurant for fine dining and exceptionally good value at €16.95 for two courses early bird.More
Just had a pleasant meal at the Virginia Restaurant at Maudlins Hotel. Food was of a mostly excellent calibre - the steak itself was a bit tough and the salad with the starter looked a little tired. Staff absolutely top notch, very caring, present, couldn't...do enough to assist. The ambience is very nice, however there was literally nowhere to hang a hat and we passed it back and forth between us during the meal. Tables very small but there is plenty of space to arrange things slightly better for comfort. This is just nitpicking however, as we did have a very pleasant meal. One niggle however: when we arrived the hostess said "You do know its the Valentine's Menu, don't you ?" I didn't but asked if that meant there was anything terribly different or special about it. No, there wasn't...ok. When presented with the menu, it was exactly the same menu I had just read on the website before heading down to the hotel on the 16th February. The only difference was that the price was more expensive and there were a few hearts printed on the menu. It still represented good value though.More
We've eaten a few times now at the restaurant here. Every time has been very good, with really delicious food and very good staff. Last time we brought our baby with us and they had her food ready very quickly which was great. Lovely room...to eat in too. Recommended.More
Had a lovely meal at the Virginia Restaurant last night 03/08/13. The food was incredible! My girlfriend and I reserved a table for 7pm and found that we were the only people in the restaurant. This remained until approx 9pm when another couple and a...party of 6 arrived. It is such a shame this restaurant was so empty and as the introduction states it seems to be a hidden tresure, so hidden that nobody can find it... My girlfriend had the goats cheese and poached pear to start which was full of flavour and I had the roast duck for mains which was cooked perfectly to my liking. I would highly recommend this place and look forward to returning again. The service was very good and even though we were the only people in the restaurant for some time the waitress did not overwhelm us.More
