Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Came in with a party of nine to great service and delicious food. Orders were taken quickly and efficiently by the very friendly server, Emma. Food was tasty and portions were big. The wraps were very good, especially the bacon and brie one with well-seasoned...wedges. The draught can Guinness was very smooth and went down a treat. A lovely restaurant in a very quaint townMore

This cafe is a lovely stop on a visit to Athy or passing through. Nearly everything on the menu can be made gluten-free and there are many options for vegans. This made a meal with both a vegan and coeliac so much less stressful than...it can be. The staff didn't bat an eyelid when we asked for specific dietary requirements and the adapted veggie breakfasts (and non-veggie) were delicious. We also had a three year old in tow and they served his food first and chatted away to him. Can't recommend this friendly and accommodating place highly enough.More

Stopped off for a quick Sunday lunch on the way to another destination. Food was good and cooked well, unfortunately can't say the same about the service. Waitress plonked our two dinners on to the table and disappeared into the kitchen. I had to go...get my own knife and fork and napkin, she forgot to bring our drinks, mint sauce and jug of gravey which I had requested. The waitress then emerged from the kitchen with her own lunch, obviously seeing to herself first!! Lol. She then proceeded to talk loudly to the next table as she seemed to know the people. Talk about feeling invisible! Shocking behaviour. To top it all the table we sat at was not cleaned properly, not a good sign in the middle of a pandemic. Will definitely not return.More

Simply the best place in Athy for coffee, cakes or anything right up to a full dinner. Fresh, warm, huge yummy scones. We will have to keep coming back to sample all the cakes! The staff are lovely.

Met a friend for coffee one morning. I had glass of water and slice of pavlova and my friend had a coffee and a scone. Bother the pavlova and the scone were very nice. The staff were helpful. Overall a lovely visit.

The Bay Tree still serves gluten free food but overall service standards and quality have sadly slipped. This is since the two owners opened a restaurant in Portlaoise. The panache has gone from the Bay Tree and apart from the gluten free food it is...no different from any other cafe in the town.More

Popped in for Breakfast after getting my hair done and was greeted by lovely friendly staff. There was a great variety to choose from on the menu. My choice was absolutely delicious and will definitely be returning again soon.

The bay tree Athy is a must for me at least twice a week if not more. Having a gluten intolerance I find it extremely hard when eating out, menus are limited but at the bay tree I can have my full Irish sausages pudding...the lot for breakfast pasta dishes, battered fish sauces and gravy’s but for a sweet tooth like mine the cakes and desserts are a must for me. It’s wonderful to be able to eat out with my family and friends and enjoy everything. Last year my family held a little get together for my birthday the ordered a birthday cake from the bay tree my family were astounded at how wonderful the cake tasted . The bay tree makes gluten free food taste fab I highly recommend this little gem of a restaurant.More

Small restaurant but good, efficient service. Very busy at lunchtime which is testament to its quality. Extensive menu with salads being particularly good.

I consider this to be the best cafe in Athy. They have more gluten free options than I have seen in most other places. They close at 5 which might be strange for people used to longer city opening hours but if you get there...early it is worth it. The prices are good too considering they have so many gluten free options.More
