Beola does not take reservations so we just walked in and got a good table. The menu is fairly small and two of the six or seven main courses were not available. Fried mussels were a great starter. Fish and chips were served in huge portions. Steak was only so-so. Based on some of the rave reviews here ("Irish/french fusion"), we expected a bit more refinement; what you get is good simple food at decent prices. Service was very friendly and efficient.

Even midweek, this restaurant was busy which is indicative of its popularity. Good range of dishes using fresh, local ingredients. We had the scallop starter & the prawn cocktail, although this had too much Marie Rose dressing and was immediately taken off our bill. The lamb shank dish was excellent. If we'd been in Roundstone longer, we would have returned.

Went here for hubby's 40th dinner. Meal was top notch from start to finish. Loved the mussels with a kick of spice, breads were delicious and brown bread ice cream was sublime. Felt very well looked after and the birthday boy was happy!

Dropped in to O'Dowds for lunch. Ordered a chicken curry and very disappointed with the dish. Chicken was very rough and rubber like. Chips were overcooked. Disappointed with what should be a simple recipe to cook. Would not recommend and would not return.

Went here based on some good reviews that I read, but it was disappointing. First of all the door was locked when we got there at 6:30-not a good start... My husband got chowder which he said was OK, and we both got the mussels for an appetizer. The portion was small as well as the mussels themselves, but they were tasty. My salmon was a nice piece of fish but the sauce was bland as well as the scallop potatoes. My husband got the fish and chips which again was OK. There were people that came in to eat after us and they were already out of some of the menu items. Staff could have been more attentive as well.

Wouldn't advise you to eat here unless you enjoy a pint of gravy poured over your overcooked frozen steak, your fries and your salad. Easily the worst meal I've had in Ireland.

Everything was meh. We tried the bruscheta and it was grand. We tried the veg soup and it was alright. Nothing outstanding. We continued with the salmon and the chicken schnitzel. The salmon was well cooked but the sauce was heavy and not very tasty. The schnitzel... the breaded was a bit overcooked. And waaaay too thick. Chips were ok. Everything came with a side of salad to laugh at it. Nothing to remember, it's just another restaurant. Nothing special, nothing good, just meh.

I don't usually review unless to compliment a restaurant, but in this case, I'm afraid it's the opposite.we ordered soup and steaks, my soup was spilled down the side of the bowl, which I was willing to overlook, but it was only warm, I had to go looking for a spoon and also bread. We ordered 2 medium steaks, my husband's was thinner than mine and was cooked fine, mine was very rare, I quietly asked for it to be put back on the pan for a minute or 2, after a while, a new steak (very small) was brought out to me, so over cooked, I couldn't eat it! Oh, and the'sauce' was poured over the whole dinner, even the salad, it tasted like something between oxtail soup and gravy. Dessert was nice, but 2 waitresses failed to bring the coffee we ordered with it.(we did eventually get it) I heard a fellow diner ask why she had been given salad instead of the vegetables stated on the menu, the waitress returned from the kitchen quite red-faced, with the explanation, "by vegetables, they mean salad"! It's a lovely airy clean restaurant, but big improvements are needed.

Booked a table the morning of the evening we were to eat here no problem. On arrival we were seated and given a set 4 course seafood menu. There was no choice on the menu - chowder, mussels, fish and chips and dessert. This was not explained to me on booking which I think is important. We probably would have not dined here had we know this at the time of booking. Saying this the food we had was good. The mussels were a little bit too salty for my liking and my 3 year old got a larger portion of fish (really lovely monk fish goujons - again no choice on this) than the adults, which I felt was a little small. For dessert we had a choice of baked apple, custard and crumble or massini semifreddo. 2 of my dinner companions had the crumble which was served without crumble and the sugar topping on the massini, which was supposed to be burnt wasn't at all. I will say the meal was good value for money at €25 a head and included a snipe of prosecco each (we were given a full bottle for 4 of us) and service, if not perfect, was very friendly.

We enjoyed dinner at Beola on a Thursday night whilst touring Ireland and were not disappointed. Local muscles for starters and fish for my main while my wife had the steak. All dishes were presented well and tasted delicious! Service was efficient and friendly. Not many restaurants in town so bookings are pretty much essential in order to get a table.

Nice and polite people. Food was very good. A more peaceful place to sit if you don't want to eat in a pub. Background music came from a radio which doesn't fit this setting. Overall we would recommend this place to others!

We had excellent and great value seafood chowder here for lunch, and on the strength of it we came back for dinner a few days later to celebrate a special occasion. We were certainly not disappointed. The food was delicious - fresh local ingredients, beautifully prepared and presented; and the service was helpful and friendly - many thanks to our waitress, Cara! The restaurant has a lovely outlook and the ambience is pleasant - it is decorated with original works of art depicting the locality.

We walked in without a reservation after a long journey from Dublin. We were delighted with great service, a warm welcome and great food. The local fish chowder is to die for. Full tummies and two glasses of Guinness later and we will be back for more. Do book for this restaurant to avoid disappointment. Thank you Beola for a delicious start to our holiday!

Our family dined here whilst staying at Eldon's Hotel in Roundstone. I ordered the mussels for entree and was blown away by the flavours. Mussels are a favorite of mine and I have had them cooked in various ways, however these were some of the best mussels I have ever tried. The chef has really mastered this dish. Well done. We also had the scallops which were fantastic. Waitresses were friendly and attentive. All in all a great dining experience you shouldn't miss if you visit the beautiful town of Roundstone.
