we were in what looked like a barn extension of the bar and I was a little apprehensive with the place, but the menu was very varied (we were 10 people - 6 of them 12-14 year olds) and prices were not bad at all. Wine selection was surprisingly good (had a nice organic red) and lots of specialities. Food was well received by all and my husband had mentioned it was my birthday so they did up a lovely birthday dessert. Every one of the staff was so friendly that we all felt very relaxed. Very positive experience.

We ate outside. There are wonderful 'islands' to allow people to eat outdoors even if it's raining, and so self-distance very effectively. The islands are basically wooden picnic tables/benches, with an open-sided wooden hut built around each one. Great solution. The meal was very nice. Tasty chowder with good brown bread. The day's special was monkfish, either in batter or pan-fried, and both were delicious. As was the burger. Good chips. Friendly and efficient service. Go for it.

We booked a table here last minute to sit inside and weren't in the least dissapointed. Our servers were all very friendly and helpful and although the menu isn't huge, everything we ordered was delicious. The kids had garlic ciabatta and the adults vegetable soup and the fish chowder (which was excellent)
Main courses were pizzas for the kids which were freshly made on a crispy thin base. The adults had a good sized portion of roast lamb with all the trimmings, battered cod with salad and chips and breaded hake goujons with salad and chips. The portions are huge so bring your appetite!

Having visited here recently I find other reviews suspect. The food & service was awful. We asked for fish & chips & were offered scallops instead of haddock. The scallops were dried out from being reheated & not fresh, served on dirty plates. Spuds, black pudding & a rasher were on the plate with the scallops. Salad too was not fresh. Service was very slow. The surround was untidy, an unkept car park with crates lying about & an old disused caravan made it feel you were sitting in a dump. A fly in water jig. A wasted asset. Best avoided.

I had spent a lot of time in this part of the world in the past but hadn't visited Connemara in years. We were looking for somewhere to stop and imaging my surprise when one of my old haunts from years ago, Tigh Mheaic, appeared on the way into Carna. Bhí sé iontach an Ghaeilge a chloisteáil arís sa cheantar. Foireann fíor cháirdiúil agus bia den scoth. I was delighted to get the opportunity to practice the cúpla focal and would like to acknowledge the extremely friendly, efficient staff. There was a great choice on the menu. The lamb burgers were great and the scampi is without a doubt the best I have ever tasted. They were made with fresh king prawns and were so perfectly crispy. The chips were delicious and there was a choice of white and malt vinegars at all the tables (something that is rarely done these days). We were sitting outside where there was plenty of space to remain socially distant. Other important things to note are the ample parking spaces and spotless toilets.
Bhaineamar uilig taithneamh as agus tá súil againn bheith ar ais sa toghchaí.

Excellent spot to refresh during a day out. We ate outside, at a big spacious picnic bench in the sun, but many of the tables are cleverly built into open-sided huts named for local islands. This allows for shelter if the weather’s wobbly, but also makes for good social distancing. Menu was food with plenty to choose from, food itself was excellent and service quick and friendly. Good value too. Definitely recommend.

Stopped here recently for a quick drink and a bite to eat. It is a lovely pub and the food and service were excellent. Very friendly young chap serving us. When one of the party accidently knocked over a mixer he insisted on replacing it free of charge even though it was our own fault. Very good service and will definitely be back. Outdoor seating area is very nicely laid out.

I grabbed a quick bite before doing a facepainting gig here.
Staff were friendly & courteous
Food was above par. I just had a bowl of soup and it was really nice, it had a certain spice or something that made it a cut above
Management expressed gratitude that I tried to use my cúpla Focal (couple of words of Irish) as one is in the heart of the Connemara Gaeltacht here.

On a dark November night, myself and my Dad were looking for some hearty food.
The pub was quiet but warm with a big fire on the go. We both ordered the fish and chips. The batter was light and crunchy, with flaky fish inside. It was actually delicious, I might go as far to say, it was the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Followed up with a delicious chocolate brownie.
A really lovely evening, definitely worth a visit.

We ate in the outdoor dining pods which fitted out family of 5 easily. They are well designed offering protection from the elements and actually quite comfortable. Food was delicious and a reasonable size portion. Staff friendly and helpful.

We were touring Connemara for a week in the glorious sunshine. We stopped off for lunch and had the seafood chowder with soda bread. It was a simple meal but it was soooo good. Best chowder I’ve had in many a long day. Perfect lunch.

Expensive pub grub unprofessional service and grubby premises. Not our first visit but prices have soared and the quality has plummeted. Guinness is good though...
