Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Went out for a leaving do from work. Service was absolutely awful. We had 3 tables reserved. One table had order and eaten before our table was even asked for our order. Food took ages to come out. One girls toasties was absolutely burnt to...a crisp. Head chef should never had let that sandwich leave the kitchen. We were then told we had to pay altogether when the bill finally arrived at the table after asking a few times for it. After bringing it up with the manager we were told that if we work out what we alone we could pay separately. But we were never given a menu to check the prices. Absolute disgrace. I won't be back.More

We went for our anniversary for dinner bingo and a few drinks. I got the sizzling fajitas they came out cold. The description was sizzling they had the hotplate but the chief forgot to heat that up. We have been so many other times and...the food is never consistent. It can be amazing one day and very bad the next.More

Went to order food at 8:05 and i was told that the food area was closed because they needed to clean up. Half hour earlier I asked food staff what tome they close and was told 8:30. Absolutely shocking that staff want to go earlier...normal and customers basically have to suck it up. Sorry want of a better expression. Penny hill has had a lot of bad gossip between customers. Many of us don't relate this due to I suppose age and newer technology that most find very difficult to do. But word of mouth will always outbeat writren or tech etc. Stick to your word Louis or sort this place outMore

I've had food here so many time and their roast beef is delicious. But I ordered the Thai chicken curry for a change. Biggest mistake ever, it needs to be taken from the menu it was so bad. Tasted like hot water. It was so...bland, I couldn't eat it. I'm so glad I ordered chips as that's all I ate. There was tons of veg in it which I love but again zero flavour. I had creamy tasty Thai curries from there a few years back so I don't know what's changed. 19euro wasted. Don't order it tryst me.More

This is a first time review as I’ve never been so upset and angry to write a bad review but in the case of the pennyhill pub it is very much warranted. Myself and my wife went to this pub for a bite to eat...before heading into town for a Christmas show. We ordered a chicken Caesar salad and a turkey and ham dinner. We were served by a very nice young server and both dishes arrived promptly. The salad seemed to be covered in a large amount of cheese but we thought nothing of it. Halfway through her salad my wife noticed to her absolute horror that the so called cooked chicken in her salad was raw!! We immediately called the attention of the young server who was shocked and immediately called the senior server Allison to our table who was equally shocked and appalled. The salad was immediately removed and I noticed it being brought back to the kitchen were the chef looked at the plate, smirked and just continued cooking. I was appalled and requested that Wayne the general manager attend our table. After 15 minutes he eventually came over, he just simply apologised. He requested our number and advised someone would contact us, we were also advised this by the senior server that they would contact us on Monday. This did not occur, we called Wayne ourselves and he advised that the senior executive chef for the Louis Fitzgerald group would call us to discuss this unacceptable incident. 3 days passed until Mark called. He did apologise but we advised this incident should not have happened. We explained how my wife was ill the entire weekend, we missed out on our show and missed a family occasion on the Saturday due to my wife being served raw chicken. He simply offered us a meal for two in the same pub for two?!!! Bearing in mind a chicken burger and salad here costs a combined €35.00!! We found this completely insulting, we advised Mark of this and he replied, “so what are you looking for money”, this was demeaning and unnecessary and shocking to us. Bearing in mind he is supposed to be senior management with this group. We have not heard anything further from him, the general manager or anyone else from the Louis Fitzgerald group. This is simply unacceptable behaviour and I have put this review in place to warn other people of the shocking standards in place in the pennyhill pub and the attitude of management. We have been regular customers of the pennyhill for numerous years, but not anymore. We have told all our friends and colleagues and they will also avoid this pub at all costs. The pennyhill is not a place to visit for a meal or drink if you intend to remain physically well after eating or drinking. There are much nicer pubs to eat and drink in, in the Lucan area. Highly recommend Courtney’s or Kenny’s. I genuinely hope you do not visit this pub, I’m sure if you do have any problems you will experience the same standards of service we received! Inexcusable standards but this has been set by management and the Louis Fitzgerald group. simply avoid this discussing filthy dirty pub, service, food and attitude from management. You’ll also see all the other one star reviews, so it’s not just us!!More

Absolutely terrible from entering the premises to leaving. The place was not busy and the staff did not come near our table for about 20 minutes. They were hanging around the bsr and food area chatting. Eventually someone approached us and gave us menus and...took a drinks order. The food did not arrive for a considerable amount of time. When it eventually arrived it was cold and our special request of gravy on the side was not followed. Obviously the food had been let sitting on the counter for a period of time while the young staff chatted. There was no sign of a manager in sight. The roast beef was dried out and must have been cooked for about a week. The thai chicken curry was tasteless. It has to be the worst experience I have had in a long time. Both the service and food was horrendous. My family and I will not be returning as I can do better myself at home at a fraction of the price.More

Where to begin..This used to be our local pub and about ten years ago we spent at least one Sunday afternoon a month here enjoying the carvery. Then it went downhill so we left and I haven't been back since. But last Sunday we decided...to give it a go as the outdoor section looked nice. We took our seats at a table and couldn't find a waitress so I went up to the bar. The bartender ..a young guy wasn't very nice and complained that I was ordering from the wrong end of the bar!!! I asked him for a drinks and food menu and was given two lamented sticky cards that had never been cleaned ever!!!! We waited back at the table for to order food but we couldn't catch a waitress even though the pub wasn't too full. The food arrived and was good then it came time to Ardersier a second round.....trying to catch a waitress is like trying to see bigfoot....impossible. the crowd were over the top loud and a lot of people were quite drunk at 3 o clock in the afternoon!!!! When some guy with a dog on a chain puked near us we called it a day. Horrible experience.More

Decided to pop in today for lunch. The waiting staff were very friendly and efficient (thank you Mariana, Katie & the chocoholic Marieta lol) I had the steak (medium) it was cooked to perfection the best steak I have had in a long time. (Thank...you Raoul) Dessert was the American style chocolate cake. One word …..delicious (see pic) To finish I had a calypso coffee which I couldn’t fault (thank you Shane & chloe) All in all I thoroughly enjoyed it and will most definitely be back.More

Arrived at the Pennyhill last week, I asked about GF meals, the waitress was very helpful, seemed to know a little about GF, but there were only 2 options, i went for the ribs, in fairness they were very nice. So was passing again this...week, asked the waitress, a different one, about GF meals, again, this time i was told just the ribs really is all i can have. Ordered them, then was told actually they are not GF. This is something that Coeliac,s find so annoying, staff not trained correctly. also, the menu, its has all the allergens with numbers at the bottom, but the meals have no numbers beside them, so whats the point!! Its not that hard to provide some GF options surely !!More
