Maybe we were sick of sandwiches and jerky, but the food here was excellent. The place is a little run down and in need of a face lift but I won't hold that against them since that's pretty typical for a small town business. The food was very reasonably priced, made to order and really good. The staff was friendly... More

Nice Stop great location with lot of parking. Very close to downtown and all other things to see in The Little Town on the Prairie.

After a day visiting with family in the area we stopped at the Oxbow for dinner. They serve up breakfast day and night, so while most of my family enjoyed burgers my daughter and I enjoyed the silver dollar pancakes, my 8 year old ate all hers plus two of mine. Good thing I ordered the hash browns and bacon... More

We tried to go to this place 3 different times, but they closed early the first 2 times we tried--on opening weekend of pheasant season when people from all over were coming in to town. Wait staff consisted of a couple attractive young girls. They were dealing with a large party of hunters in the private dining/party room. Nothing seemed... More

In town to see museum. We were actual recommended this place by a local. Town must have terrible taste. The food here was one of the worst I have ever had. Had the special of chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and corn. Corn was in warmer to long and out of a can. Potatoes were instant and not mixed well... More

Disclaimer: There are not a lot of restaurants in De Smet. We found the Oxbow a tasty stop. Simple menu items from hamburgers to cod planks. Pork chops to soup. Ours servers were friendly and eager to help. We are there two of the two nights we were in town

Stopped by for lunch. Shared the combo appettizer. Hubby had deluxe burger. ..I had pizza burger. Could have used some pizza sauce but good. Hubby loved his burger. Will stop again. Table next to us had a hot hamburger combo....looked really good.

Choices aren't many in DeSmet for meals and The Oxbow is a solid diner with the expected array of options for adults and kids, which it delivers solidly -- but do not expect anything exceptional. The staff clearly are used to tourists and are polite and reservedly friendly but not more than that. The place feels old and tired but... More

A pleasant stop for fans of the Little house on the prairie books. Not flash -- just real cooking in old booths -- best homemade Strawberry Rhubarb pie for miles & miles. The staff is friendly and gives you a sense of small town america.

We ate here after a long day of sightseeing and we stopped just before they closed for they day. The waitress was professional and polite and the owner even came over and spoke with us and told us some history of the town and the restaurant also. The food was filling and delicious and very reasonable. Easy to find ample... More
