Location and contact

Established in 1949. The Pheasant Café opened in 1949, has been owned by the same couple since 1966 and run by 3 generations of the family since then! The professional team and the fans of this local hub form the "Pheasant fam." Locals affectionately call this place "The Bird." The Pheasant serves inspired takes on upscale-casual SoDak favorites, real food in the heart of the farm belt. Housemade artisan ice creams. Local lamb and bison. Live Jazz on Mondays (Sept. through May). Retail wine shop on site with a huge selection of olive oils and balsamic vinegars to taste and shop. The private-label coffee is on all day (organic, fair trade, locally roasted). Full-service cocktail bar, microbrews, world-class wines. Watch the sun set over the prairie horizon from the backyard patio!

We went here for dinner with a huge group, almost 60 people, and the service was excellent while the food was very good. We had a special selection of entrees for this event, I had pork chop with mashed potatoes. They were excellent. The server...More

Briefly, this is Brookings, SD. It's a small town and host to a large college. And The Pheasant has been around fore-ev-ver. Don't expect a Maitre'D with an Eton-style accent and don't expect modern-fusion decor and certainly don't expect your food to be plated by...More

Heard about the Norwegian waffle brunch served on weekends, so checked it out on a Saturday in September. So good, takk for maten! Just the right amount of cardamom in the batter gave that special traditional Scandinavian flavor along with lingonberry preserves. A couple other...More

I hear this is the best place in town, scary if true. Vegetables were a bit overdone and soggy. Salad dressing was probably bottled. Walleye entree was great, pheasant salad appetizer not so great. Pheasant was overwhelmed by the mayo and apple, could have been...More

For our first overnight in brookings we went to The Pheasant for dinner, what a treat. Amiable staff served absolutely delicious food, prime rib, pork chops and steak salad. The Wisconsin Cheese Soup was spectacular. Highly recommended.

I had heard many great things about this restaurant and I honestly thought it would have been better. I ordered a sirloin steak with mashed potatoes and a house salad. The steak was tender and flavorful. But I just didn't think it was as good...More

Went here right after lunch but before some of the side items were ready for dinner which was just fine with us. I had the bison burger and was not disappointed. Our waitress was great and the atmosphere was great too. Overall this is definitely...More

I rarely spend this much money eating out, so I was hoping it would be a real treat. I had the special, which was pork loin with bacon and a cheese sauce. The meat was very tough. That happens. When the waitress came and asked...More
