While on the way to Florida, we stayed in Santee, South Carolina. After a long day of driving, we didn’t feel like dressing up, so we decided on the local Cracker Barrel…a familiar place we can always count on for good food, pleasant service, and a cozy feeling.
Traveling through South Carolina getting hungrier by the mile, we passed billboard after billboard promising peaches and pecan logs. We knew that If we stopped at any Cracker Barrel we'd get a consistently big, tasty meal in a clean environment. Maybe it's in the category of road food, but you get good food, and way more interesting than burgers. I like the catfish and all the sides like grits and corn and "fried" apples. The meat loaf is a cut above what you might be expecting. And the fried chicken is always good.
Good food, although my fish wasn't as hot as I would have wanted it to be. There are decent health and vegetarian options. The atmosphere is comfy and the service was great. A good stopping point on the road.
Without a single doubt the worst food EVER in my life and that would include over 1,500 restaurants I have eaten at over the past 50 years Not only was the food discustingly bad but it made all four of us, my daughter, two grandchildren and I very sick We ate there on Saturday December 24 and we are all... I tend to gravitate toward Cracker Barrel when traveling. Most are pretty good, a few are pretty bad. This one ranks near the top. Prompt and courteous seating. Appropriately attentive service. Country fried steak was large and well-cooked. Fried okra were just right. Turnip greens had too many pieces of stalk.
Friendly staff, clean restaurant, and generous servings of good food make this CB a family favorite when traveling.
