H-GB&A was the consensus meeting place for three of us who knew each other professionally, but had never socialized. Must have been a success, as one of us missed a meeting scheduled afterwards. Set in what appears to be a small warehouse situated between USC and the state capitol. No need to praise the beer, since that has already been... More

Hunter-Gatherer is the perfect place for a great meal before any shows at the Koger Center or CLA. Great food at great prices and outstanding beer selection. Food and drink specials are always a great bet.

Honestly beer brought us here. We brew our own and are major beer snobs. I prefer IPA's my husband likes all types. Beer was excellent! My burger was great and they cooked it medium rare just the way I like it. I had a salad instead of fries and I get dressing on the side (I like to taste my... More

Had a business meeting here - - worked very well. There was some noise, but certainly tolerable. Asked the server for suggestions, followed them - - great choice! She recommended some fish called goat's teeth or something awful like that, fish rocked! just has a terrible name. Wanted dark beer, she recommended a wonderful brew - - you will not... More

We arrived to attend class at USC and wanted something within walking distance of our hotel. This was a nice walk -- they feature outdoor seating which was nice. They brew their own beer if you like that.. very friendly staff

In town for Parents Weekend at USC. Came in for lunch. Excellent food, far above typical bar fare, but burgers and sandwiches, too. Food quality far above the usual micro-brewery. Beers on tap were good. Everything reasonably priced. Lovely historic building that gives a quiet and peaceful oasis just steps from both USC and the SC Statehouse.

I travel to Columbia twice a year and always hit the local breweries. They have a pretty good selection and the atmosphere is great. I highly recommend

I was just passing through Columbia and was glad to find this brewery. My beer was delicious and I was happy to find the menu was so much more than typical pub grub. I had a bacon, mozzarella and Gorgonzola pizza that was very good. I sat at the bar and enjoyed the atmosphere.

Thank honase

Hunter-Gatherer Brewery has been brewing and serving classic ales since 1995. Starting in 2015, we will regularly feature cask-conditioned ales served from wood kilderkins made by Alastair Simms, the only master cooper in the United Kingdom.

Michael Jackson, aka the "Beer Hunter", visited the Hunter-Gatherer Brewery in 1997. He wrote that the Hunter-Gatherer is "the kind of place CAMRA (Campaign For Real Ale) members might enjoy. The beer is the hero, rather than the brewery being an afterthought. In the U.S., And even sometimes in Britain, the latter is too often the case."

Michael Jackson was the best beer writer and critic the world has known. A compliment from Michael Jackson is as meaningful as it gets in the brewery world.
