Lots of fun, met nice people in the long line. But mediocre food. Oysters were a HUGE amount of work for not much food. We were disappointed.

Every time I go back to visit Charleston, I always make a visit to Bowens Island Seafood. Living here way back in the early 80's this place was way back on a sandy road in a small shack with a jukebox. Today, it is rebuilt; upstairs is where you order seafood and drinks, dining inside or out on the porch.... More

Typical fish shack, oysters always excellent and steamed the old fashioned way. Great views and some local beers on tap.

As a native Floridian, who has grown up harvesting fresh oysters for oyster roasts, this was a great find in Folly Beach. This is an old style (reminds me of spots I used to visit back in the 60's) seafood restaurant, specializing in steamed oysters and fried fish, Do not wear fine clothes. Do not expect china and silverware. Do... More

Very informal, crowded, noisy, and inefficient. One has to stand in line to place an order for food and beverages and prepay. Then the food is delivered to the tables on paper plates. All the cups and tableware is paper or plastic. When our meals finally arrived (they lost our order), the fried seafood was excellent. However, the management was... More

We had spent afternoon on Folly Beach and wanted some great fried seafood. We were told that this is a must do...A landmark. Stood in a line to order for at least 30 minutes. The Fried food was barely adequate....Terrible shrimp and grits! Plastic plates and paper everything! Warm beer...I think this might be a fun bar atmosphere place to... More

Friends booked a private space for their rehearsal dinner - the traditional low country boil couldn't have been better! Quite possibly the best hush puppies ever... The laid-back atmosphere, meandering drive off the main road (yes, other reviews may mention this is a little frustrating, but just keep driving) and delicious food are the perfect way to acclimate a midwesterner... I enjoy raw oysters but never had fried ones. This restaurant was close to my rental so I thought I'd give it a try. It was close to dark when turned onto Bowen Island Rd. On this winding, narrow, uneven dirt road I could just barely see the water and marsh just off to the side and I was thankful... More

Thank you to all the folks who have written reviews and answered questions on this wonderful restaurant...thanks to you I knew I could have our dog with us on the outside deck to enjoy the magnificent sunset while eating delectable seafood! We arrived on a Thursday afternoon, ~4:30. We walked up the ramp with our dog and secured a seat... More

Getting out onto this island in the estuarine waterways of South Carolina gives you a feel for a more traditional life - you can see shrimp boats, and mounds of oyster shells (a modern midden). This is a crowded chaotic restaurant featuring steamed oysters and fried seafood. The steamed oysters were obviously good - lots of folks were having nothing... More
