Was looking forward to an exceptional meal at Circa 1886 for a trip to celebrate my Husband's birthday. We had a 7:30 reservation and our table was not ready until nearly 8 PM. There was not adequate seating in the bar for us to wait. I admit, we are foodies and I was really looking forward to this meal. We... More
This is a gorgeous restaurant with an uppity attitude. In a former carriage house, the setting is lovely with barn doors and coffered ceilings. We had to wait a little for our table and we felt the maitre d' was not very pleasant. We enjoyed the amuse bouche (white bean soup with truffle oil). Our waitress recommended the snapper which... We had very high expectations for our dinner here, but were sadly disappointed. After reading reviews we expected the restaurant's ambience would be outstanding, the food delicious, and the service excellent. We were disappointed on all three counts. We did not find the room to be that unusual or that well decorated, the service was mediocre and the food unremarkable.... More

The meal we had here was exceptional. We are foodies and this place is a gem. One of us had the tasting menu and the other ordered off of the menu. EVERYTHING was exceptional. The service, presentation, quantity and quality were all first class. The antelope was amazing. We ate at 10 different "best of" restaurants in Charleston and this... More
We went to Circa 1886 on our last night in Charleston. We definitely saved one of the best for last. Although expensive we felt it was definitely worth it. We ordered a beef dish and lamb osso bucco. Both meals were excellent, very tasty and tender. This restaurant also brings little extras to the table prior to your meal. Our... More

This restaurant is located in the carriage house of a mansion. The mansion is a bed and breakfast that you can walk through. We had a wonderful meal. I had osso bucco and my husband had the beef. Both meals were outstanding. Before our meal we were treated to a small cup of soup an a taste of tuna. We... More
The scallops in our scallop appetizer were perfectly seared and our salad came with a delicious thin slice of gourmet cheese. Our flounder entree was moist and flavorful with a slice of beef carpaccio underneath. These were prepared gluten free. The gluten free bread (rarely available in restaurants) was absolutely great and they even prepared a special gluten free dessert... More
