We started our trip in Charleston and ate at some really good spots like Halls chophouse, Poogan's Porch, Elie's and Jim and Nicks. Then we spent a week in the gastronomic wasteland know as Myrtle beach- where uninspired food is served by less than happy people. So it was a welcome return trip to Charleston and the Glass Onion before... More

My wife and I tried The Glass Onion while visiting Charleston. We tried the fried green tomato appetizer, which was good with the goat cheese. My wife ordered pork belly plate with sweet potato mash and over easy eggs. I had the oversized chicken sandwich. My wife told waitress that she was allergic to peppers, but she still brought potatoes... More

This is a laid back casual foodie place! Excellently prepared meals from local sources. I go often either for lunch or dinner and have not been disapointed in any meal. I appreciate the attention to detail on the flavors. Definately one of my favorites.

We had a delightful lunch at the Glass Onion. Passed by this place on Savannah Highway for a long time and just figured it was not worth stopping. Boy was I wrong!!! This is an awesome place for lunch. Great selections and quick friendly service. Desserts were very good also. The items are unique (Southern theme) and very tasty. Highly... More

Visiting Charleston for four days of vacation. On-line reviews led me to this restaurant. I'm a displaced New Orleanian that resettled in Santa Fe, NM due to Hurricane Katrina. The food here was all EXCELLENT! I had a fried catfish poor-boy (ask them to blacken it!) that was as good as any I ever had in 12 years off living... More

From the reputation I was expecting a lot more "pomp" but, I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into what looks like your classic southern country side cafe. Nestled snugly into a highway side strip just outside of downtown, the glass onion is now at the top of my go-to places in Charleston. With a pleasant staff that is extremely... More

My wife's dinner was great. Mine not so much. She had sautéed scollops over rice that was amazing. I had the tuna over fresh pasta. Honestly, the tuna tasted like it was from a can and I know it wasn't. It just wasn't great tasting tuna, on the bloody side. We had a great waitress. And we were served promptly.... More

Food was good with excellent shrimp po boys. Wait staff casual attire in higher priced facility which was run down. Key lime tart was a disappointment

I've seen a few reviews complaining about the portions and the prices. I totally disagree with both criticisms. The portions were large, with even our 15 year old son (a big eater) completely full by the end of the meal. The prices were right where I would expect them to be for this kind of food. My son and I... More

A super place for good food at a good price. We went two days in a row for the shrimp and grits and the trout and grits.

Description
The Glass Onion is one of Charleston’s original home grown, locally focused, all-natural restaurants. Owner and Executive Chef Chris Stewart opened the restaurant in 2008 with fellow culinary colleagues. It was one of the first places in town to support local farmers and purveyors with almost every dish and drink. An eighth generation Alabama native, Stewart’s love and appreciation of southern food shows through his menu. His restaurant boasts comfort food that reflects his time growing up in Alabama, as well as New Orleans and Lowcountry influences.

The ever-evolving menu changes daily and features as many local, all natural, hormone-free ingredients as possible. The soulful food draws influence from Stewart’s southern heritage and family recipes, especially from his grandmother Jennie Ruth; and is available for lunch, dinner and Saturday brunch.
