In town with my 2 sons for the Michigan Penn State game & went here for dinner. We all ordered the bone in rib eye & we all agreed that it was one of the best steaks we have had. We have been to many...More

We stopped by here at the recommendation of a local. It was crowded but the wait was only about 10 minutes for a table. In the center of the restaurant is a lively bar with sing along music. Everyone in that room was having a...More

We make a regular stop of the American Ale House. I buy gift certificates every year and hoard them to give myself an excuse to go there. They have great seafood, jambalaya, draft beers, steaks, lamb, salads, lots to like. And they often have very...More

Spent a lovely evening with friends at the American Ale House. Our waitress Kaitlin was superb. We especially enjoyed the mussels in the Thai peanut sauce. Best of all enjoyed listening to Tommy at the piano bar. This "Wildflower" will be back!!!!

Soft shell sandwiches, oyster po'boys, beautiful fish. Really wonderful food and excellent and accommodating service. Seating outdoors on the patio can be wonderful but you will hear the college staff talk shop at their tables.

This has always been a great restaurant tucked away in Toftrees, just a little outside of town. The food is always excellent! On this occasion, they were short staffed, but usually there is no problem.

This restaurant is in Tofftrees not far from campus. We always stop anytime we're visiting and never leave disappointed. Food is excellent, service is great, and the atmosphere pleasant. If dinners seem pricey, the sandwiches and appetizers are great. Try the oyster nachos and the...More

Very unique menu but not a lot of choices. More seafood choices than steak. My wife prefers seafood, she always finds something she likes. Last night I had their wings. Only one type. With different degrees of heat. They have live piano on some nights....More

The American Ale house is a restaurant and bar located in Tofftrees, right outside of Penn State. It is about 5-10 minutes from downtown. When we last came last year the menu was totally different. Now it is much more sophisticated. The food is delicious....More

We usually end up coming here every time we are in town. It's a place where you can get great food and enjoy other patrons at the bar. Plus they have entertainment as well.

Yes, they take reservations. I suggest you ask for the room with the piano bar if you like it louder and rowdier (piano player is great - lots of fun!) or ask for the dining room that's more quiet if that's the atmosphere... More
