A destination restaurant with the celebrity cache of Rick Stein. We had visited nearly seven years ago when last in the vicinity - and it is as fresh as it was all those years ago. We enjoyed the menu, great cooking, first class service and lovely dining room. Very modern Australian - spicy flavours etc. Certainly a special occasion restaurant... More

We were lucky enough to enjoy lunch and dinner at Rick Stein's. Service is exceptional and so is the setting. For lunch we sat on the verandah which was gorgeous, shaded and cool. Lots of seafood on the menu and all the food is well prepared and presented. Nice touches like specially made chocolates or caramels when you order coffee.

Rick Stein at Bannisters We spent three nights in the Bannisters hotel, and ate in the restaurant on two evenings. What a difference two days can make. We were really looking forward to this as we both really love seafood, and the menu sounded really delicious. How wrong you can be. The staff and the venue and the view were... More

We recently visited both Rick Steins and The Pavilion on alternative nights for meals. I would prefer to make a comparison as both are virtually the same management and a lot of people eat at both. Our accommodation was at The Pavilion as a special deal. See separate review. The Pavilion was more of a restaurant and the ambiance not... More

Our first dinner at Rick Steins was so good and the menu so varied that we had to return for a second dinner to sample some other dishes. On Visit one, we had the spicy end of the menu with the fabulous coconut prawns and cumin and the snapper with laksa noodles and the Marsala curry. All were outstanding and... More

Whilst staying at Bannisters Pavilions we booked dinner at Rick Stein (having been told on the phone, when making our room booking, that lunch was not available). The service was "adequate" with the young staff doing their best. Both our entrees and mains were certainly not above average and the curry sauce with the snapper overwhelms the delicate flavour of... More

A friend had breakfasted here earlier in the week and described the breakfast as 'pretty average'. He was right except for the brilliant gluten-free bap made from three kinds of flour and the outstanding and beautifully textured black pudding. On the negative side the bacon appeared to have been boiled and was was cold. Sitting on the balcony was a... More

We went for a birthday. Just the 2 of us. Although we have lived locally for a short while now this was our first a la carte visit. Having previously had a set christmas lunch 2 years ago. The food was fantastic, I'm a seafood lover but this was a higher level than I have had before. Although I've done... More

I visited for dinner whilst staying at Bannister's sister property Bannister's Pavilion (which was great and which offers a shuttle - super friendly and efficient). I'd preface the review by saying the food was 'nice to pretty good' but it was a very underwhelming experience that had I have gone there for a 'special' or much anticipated occasion I'd be... More

The title says it all. The seafood is tasty and fresh and the wines have been well chosen. Our dessert was light and cleansing, just what you need after a spicy salmon. Make Bannisters that special stop on your south coast trip.

Description
Our restaurant is a reflection of Rick's passion for seafood and the coastal lifestyle which he has enjoyed for most of his life. As he says: "nothing is so exhilarating as fresh fish, simply cooked". He believes that fresh seafood should speak for itself. While he enjoys occasional fine dining, his food is much more about what he really likes to eat: a plate of Clyde River oysters, a pot of Illawarra prawns with mayonnaise, a mound of spanner crab, a slice of blue eye or a perfectly grilled sand whiting. We like our service to be informal but observant and enjoy employing local people who may lack the total polish of fine dining restaurants, but who more than make up for it with a genuine welcome.Peter Bacon, General Manager
