My wife and visited the Broad Axe Tavern while on a trip to the area in late July. We made a reservation at the restaurant because it claims to be an historic tavern. Upon arrival, we were disappointed to see that the interior is so...More

We were led to the third floor and seated. There was no coffee up there and nobody brought us any. The waitress said we could start our "buffet", but there was only one plate. We waited about ten minutes for clean plates. There was no...More

The meal started off nicely with warm Italian bread. My friend and I ordered the same entrée: Hoisin glazed salmon with mashed potatoes and Asian slaw. The waiter only brought ONE entrée. He apologized and we told him it was ok, we would split the...More

As history buffs, we couldn't resist visiting what is advertised as the "first tavern in the United States". Parking is limited; there is more space at the neighboring Phil's. On both the exterior and the interior, the building appears updated and well-maintained. The exterior appears...More

Nice place with a lot of history behind it. I heard it was renovated a few years back and it shows. Atmosphere is of a friendly tavern and not trying to be an upscale environment. Staff from host and hostess to wait and bus staff...More

Dating back to 1681, The Broad Axe Tavern is one of America's oldest taverns. Reopened in May of 2009 after undergone a multi-million dollar renovation. We welcome you to come in to see and enjoy this historic land mark. The pointed stone, hardwood and slate tiled floors give the restaurant its old world charm. Its leather booths, wood tables and iron fixtures also give it a casual elegance. The menu is a eclectic mix of small plates for grazing, grilled pizzas, large plates and tavern sandwiches. Guest favorites include Steamed Mussels, Seafood Chowder and Crab Cakes, NY Strip Steak and our Award-Winning BBQ Ribs. A great place to meet and greet with sixteen craft and imported beers on tap, over 175 bottled beers from around the world for your enjoyment. Or try a bottle of wine from our 21 Club, 38 Special list. We also have high end Premium wines or one of our great wines by the glass. Daily drink specials include happy hour 5-7pm.
