We've eaten here many times over the last several years; it continues to be our favorite Salem restaurant for special occasions. The menu changes frequently with interesting options; there has been just one time that I didn't have a hard time choosing my entree. It is more expensive than most restaurants in Salem but is well worth it. I wholeheartedly... More

Your chef and host, Bernard, will take you to France for the evening. This is a "special occasion" high end yet homey gourmet delight in a tiny house (patio offers more space in the summer). The menu is seasonal, vegan/vegetarian with advanced request. Reservation recommended. Our "go to" place for celebrations.

While I try to avoid negative reviews, the overall experience and expensive meal left me wondering why this restaurant stays open. Very small with no room to eat (you're basically sitting all together with no privacy). Offerings seemed interesting, though expensive, but turned out to be mediocre at best. Wine list was sad, considering it sits next to the Amity... More

We love this restaurant and dine here several times a year. The food is always excellent and authentically French Bistro. They have a good selection of French Burgundy wines and we generally just have Bernard (owner/chef) pick one for us. We've also brought our own wine and paid the corkage. The restaurant is small, but we think that creates an... More

We had a great experience and a delicious dinner at The Crooked House Bistro. The server was very friendly and personable. We were offered indoor or outdoor seating. We started with the chilled tomato soup and a salad. The soup was very good with lots of basil. The salad was also very good with a perfect, light vinaigrette. The bread... More

Good thing we had reservations because the house doesn't accommodate many tables. We ordered 3 entrees for 5 people which was just the right amount food along with everyone getting salads. We ordered the lamb, the rib-eye steak ($49.50) and the seafood. All were good but the lamb was excellent. We also ordered some wine. The first bottle was a... More

A great little spot, little being an operative word, with very good service and very good food. You expect french food to be expensive, but $49.50 for a large T-bone steak? Excellent lamb stew and very good seafood stew. These were $29.50 each. And the wine was good but over-priced, we thought. The cheapest bottle on the menu around $40--but... More

I respect the number of reviews of this little place that describe experiences questioning whether the food, drink and their prices are always in an ideal relationship. Yes, items are comparatively expensive, with only a few entrees closer to $20 than to $30-40; and with fewer wine bottles in the $30 neighborhood than in the $40-60. So, for many guests,... More

The food was very good and the wait staff was very attentive. The only things i didn't like were the prices were very high and the seats were very crammed together.

We have eaten here many times, returning again and again for the carefully prepared, unpretentious comfort food, French style. Everything is fresh and seasonal. Chef/owner Bernard will make substitutions on request and will also select appropriate wine for your meal if you wish. Some reviews have commented on the prices being high, but in our estimation the careful, delicious quality... More
