I started going to Pal's when I was a kid back in 1968. My parents knew the original owners Cliff & Marty Hansen. I would get a note from my mom for our order. Even though it was a tavern, I was allowed to stand just inside the door to wait for our food. Back then they served their famous... More

I do love me my dive bar as much as the next guy ... my dad has been talking about this place for years and I finally took him there for his favorite - razor clams. It's cool that there's a Portland dive bar that has been there a bajillion years and serves razor clams. I think my dad is... More

Pal's shanty, from the outside looks like a tavern you might not want to go into. But, indeed, you should enter this neighborhood watering hole, especially for lunch. Locals and businesspeople frequent Pal's for their seafood. Our large group was accommodated well and we enjoyed our salad and sandwiches. I think we overwhelmed them but they were good natured about... More

Looks like a dive bar circa 1965 on the outside. 1955 inside. But the seafood is good. Price are a little on the high side for my tastes. I go in here about once every ten years. I will be due again in 2023.

Our favorite hole-in-the-wall gem. I've not had a bad meal here in all the time I've been here, and on only one evening did our server have an "off" night. I don't know what the reviewer who said "no spirits served" was talking about; I have my two weekly vodka martinis right here. The seafood is terrific. The crab and... More

This place has been around forever and it looks like it. Not the flashiest place in town. That being said, I love it! The fresh seafood here is always good and there is quite a selection. If hole in the wall places don't turn you on, don't get turned off when you walk in and give it a chance. Its... More

A friend took me here last month and I raved about the mussels after trying them. Our second visit last week was a little disappointing. Our dinner of a crab louie, large steamer clams, and two beers was $57. The atmosphere is lacking, but the food is decent.

We have been going to Pal Shanty since the 60's and they continue to serve wonderful food! They have tons of seafood items. Our favorite is an open-faced crab sandwich. It is always great and very filling. Their clams are terrific as well as their clam chowder. They also have regular burgers and other offerings, but we love seafood. Never... More

Loved the Seafood Chowder. The smoked salmon was the best and gave it a wonderful extra taste. I had a cup with the Crab Louie. Both were wonderful. The atmosphere is down home local and that was perfect. If I lived in Portland it would be a regular haunt of mine.
