We had an excellent meal at this restaurant in downtown Portland. We put our name in for a table but while waiting at the bar, space opened up and were offered the full menu at the bar. So, there was very little wait for us....More

Yes get the octopus. Fantastic. So was all the rest of the food. They encourage eating family style with a large group. So we followed the recommendation. We passed around the duck, pork chop, steak, mustard greens (super good) you get the idea. Service was...More

Had to wait an hour to be seated. They did take our number and call so we could go have a drink down the street. We were seated at a small table crammed next to another couple, and the place was loud. The servers seemed...More

The food was tasty as promised. Service was also stellar. We sat outside and sampled many dishes-- scallops, duck, homemade pasta, beets with ricotta, panacotta, & brownie with ice cream. All exceeded our hopes and dreams. For us, it lived up to the hype!

Very nice scones and fresh jam provided just about as soon as you sit down. The rest was OK...decent Eggs Benedict (eggs cooked perfectly, decent hollandaise, but Canadian bacon was rubbery and english muffin was soft/mushy and not properly toasted. Wife/son had eggs w/potatoes which...More

We had some small plates and drinks at the bar. The service was friendly and fast despite the restaurant being very busy. The food was AMAZING and the drinks delicious. Excellent wine and specialty cocktails list. Loved the locally sourced food and unique menu options....More

We went as a family group of five. Something for everyone including our vegetarian and two big kids. We were unable to book in the usual fashion but it was worth going at 2 pm to make a reservation for a 5.30 dinner. It is...More

Happy hour is nice deal here but it is only in the bar or outside. Starts at 2:30 -5 and the bar area is small. The bartender will help you negotiate the menu. The radicchio salad with egg and lardons are excellent. The $3 mugs...More

Trendy, cute restaurant with interesting food options. The wait was 45 mins which wasn't a problem but tables weren't being cleared quickly and when the waitress said "family style" I was expecting sharing dishes, not 1 dish per 15 minutes, leading to a stilted meal....More

No parking. We walked from our hotel. We never felt unsafe. We walked around for hours downtown, my wife and I, at all hours of the day and night. No problems. Always be smart.

Description
Tasty n Alder, a John Gorham restaurant in Downtown Portland, Oregon, is a modern steakhouse featuring a fun, family-style menu of innovative dishes with diverse international origins. The dinner menu is rooted in the traditional steakhouse concept featuring meats, seafood and salad served in a festive, energetic environment that encourages shared plates and imbibing. Tasty n Alder’s brunch menu is inspired by Chef Gorham’s travels and experiences with the vital immigrant community working in the restaurant industry whose own cultural traditions have helped re-shape American cuisine as a global collaboration of flavors.
