For all the reviews, I was waiting for magical french cuisine, but it is just average food with a lot of sauce with even a bit too much salt.

St. Jack prepares genuine French cuisine in a comfortable setting on Northwest 23rd in Portland. Tripe and blood sausage for the adventuresome, steak frites for the more cautious. Everything is delicious. For a special treat, try the crispy pork rind with maple syrup. The Lyonnaise salad is also excellent. If you still have room for dessert, the Madeleines are outstanding.... Brassieres in France can be counted on to provide a selection of tried and true French dining staples, nothing fancy just good food in a lively atmosphere. St. Jack is just that. However, the prices, especially the wine, are high enough to be more like a one star restaurant, which St. Jack is not.

This is our favorite restaurant in Portland. We returned just before Thanksgiving and enjoyed every single bite, including fresh oysters, stunning tomato soup, a perfect green salad, steak tartare, steak frites (can't get enough beef @ this place!). Felt as though the bar has expanded; great place for a late evening bite. Service + ambiance are terrific.

we came here about a month ago, 12 of us on a Friday night. The reviews promised a great dinner. The food took ages to get to the table, the noise was so loud you could not hear your neighbor, the french-fries came right out of a commercial bag, the price was outrageous and the staff was impatient. our table... Loved the old location, love the new one even more. And same great food. Also a wait staff that knows their wine list. Tres bien.

My husband and I sat at the chef's table on a Monday evening. Place was packed. I started with a fabulous mixed green salad and then had the cream of tomato soup baked in puffed pastry. My husband had steak tartar and then a selection of 3 cheeses with bread and a pear puree and persimmon slices. We split the... More

My waitress was friendly, efficient, and attentive--providing me with extra bread when she noticed I had finished what she served. I had a delicious salad, a goat cheese spread on bread, and a dish containing mussels and clams that was very tasty.

Ordered Butternut Squash ravioli. Delish! friendly staff. Loved the Mom and Baby sitting in the next booth. Very neighborhoody and warm on a cool day.

We had supper here and found the menu to be quite modern and adventuresome. The steak was very good and the staff efficient. It was very noisy so having a normal conversation was difficult.
