Meals are served tapis style. Usually, this is not my favorite approach. However, for this restaurant I loved it. The small plates give everyone an opportunity to sample several dishes. I had blackened catfish, popcorn shrimp, buttered corn bread muffins, beignets, and café de Monde. The only way this meal could've been any better is if I had actually been... More

I have eaten at Tapalaya on at least 5 occasions with company and without. It is a strange place because it kind of has a bizarre interior. The food is New Orleans/Cajun Style and it is very good. They kind of have the small plate thing going on so if you are alone and super hungry you probably need to... More

Small plates-our group had fried okra, creamed spinach (best ever!), crabby mac (mac & cheese with crab), crawfish and grits, red beans and rice, vegetarian greens and corn bread. Every dish was really outstanding.

I love their Happy Hour sitting at a table out on the sidewalk. As a vegetarian this place has some great options and keeps the meat eaters happy too! Grits, mississippi caviar (black-eyed peas, red onions, celery and bell peppers marinated in a red wine vin), fried okra, and veggie jambalaya are just a few of my favorites. Top it... More

This place has become my new favorite brunch location. It has not yet become saturated by tourists or hipsters and stands out as awesome Creole cuisine at "old Portland" prices. We drove by a giant line at Screen Door on our way back home and had to LOL at all the suckers waiting in line. My partner very much liked... More

We dined at Tapalaya with some friends back in 2010 on a whim and we visited it again on a whim after 6 years. It is amazing the place still retains its charm after 6 years! That was simply amazing for us. Even some of the wait staff were still around from that time. The food was just right and... More

We had the opportunity to eat at Tapalaya twice during the past week. Both times it was a genuine pleasure to be there and enjoy the food and the atmosphere. It was the menu that brought us in to begin with. A quick look told us that we were in a place that knew what people eat in New Orleans:... More

Very casual setting, okay ambiance (a bit dark though) with pretty good food. For three of us during happy hour (before 6:00 PM) we spent about 40 dollars for food and drinks. The service was good .. But finding parking can be problematic.

for not getting to this excellent restaurant for eight years. I love Cajun, and I love places that twist their take a bit, and Tapalaya does both. Although the idea of Cajun with a touch of Vietnamese may sound odd, it's not when you consider there's a large community from Viet Nam in Louisiana. Tapalaya channels this with great dishes...
