Managed to get a booking for lunch although they were nearly booked up 3 weeks in advance! And I can see why! We all had Sunday lunch but there were other dishes on offer for those who don't like a roast, which I think is good. Service was excellent and the atmosphere clean, light and homely. Reasonably priced and served... More

Dropped in here for an impromptu lunch without knowing the place at all. Excellent food and really big portions...couldn't finish my fish and it was REAL fish, big white flakes of it encased in a light batter. Not like some places where you get some fish with your batter! Service was excellent. A really lovely young man seated us...maybe called... More

Shame as I've been here a few times, maybe the chef had a bad day as food very average. Wasn't that hot, vegetables soggy. Very busy and hard to get service!

Popped in to the Red Lion during short tour of area. Ample parking - friendly welcome. As it was around 2.30 pm on a Sunday it was quite busy to lucky to get a table. Ordered a Guinness ( nice and creamy) and a San Miguel beer and the Sunday Roast Beef and Sunday Roast Lamb. It took a while... More

Visited this pub as had never been there, parking was easy, strange choice of beers though Japanese lager, big menu with lots of choice, sat by a round window that looked into the kitchen, the window was covered in muck and you see an oven door that looked as though it had not been cleaned foe while, a ham was... Had lunch at the Red Lion with my wife and a friend. Nice clean modern ambience - roaring log fire at one end of the pub and a wood burner in the restaurant. Restaurant is light and airy. Excellent choice on the lunchtime menu (and a good choice for children) of starters, mains and desserts plus a set 2 or... More

Lunch of risotto and chicken pie We shared and it was one of best tasting choices eaten out. My mums pie and my risotto are hard to beat. Novel choice of haggis and black pudding risotto w wild mushrooms and runny scotch egg. We ate the following day at Gravetye manor and this meal was better!!!! Full of flavour. Basically... More

We have passed this pub many times and kept saying we must try it. Then when planning to meet friends for a Sunday dog walk we proposed having lunch at the Red Lion. I booked a table with no problem at all - which was frankly amazing because it was soooooo busy when we got there. Dog-friendly, and there were... More

We popped in today and were lucky enough to get a table. Not knowing how big the roast dinner would be we did have a starter. Sadly this meant we struggled with the Roast dinner portion size. it really doesnt need the onion bread added, there is certainly enough on the plate, the vegetables were lovely, butter beans, sprouting brocolli,... This was a disappointment today as had high hopes of good food. The decent portion size could not make up for the lack of taste. Burger burnt on the outside and not cooked in the middle, when pointed out to waiter, we gained a very lack lustre "sorry". The Chilli was dry and needed the sauce to help enjoy. Although... More
