I reviewed them in 2018 and had been a regular. However, since the covid struck, I couldn't go and my last visit was for my birthday(first one after our wedding, so was special) I am aware that Dastaan is not a fine dinning restaurant and...it's the food that matters. However, the service quality has gone down so much. While I made a special request over the phone when i make the reservation we get the good table in the restaurant for the special occasion, the person answering the phone hardly acknowledged my request and routinely booked us. When we visited we were the first customer on the night and the restaurant was super cold. We asked if the rad is on or if we can sit near the fan heater, the waiter said fan heater can't be put where we were and shrugged off. Food was ok still, and they've added more dessert so it was good. But many if not all of the staff were very unprofessional and nothing was done for the birthday celebration, no candle, nor message on dessert plate etc. Dastaan was a place i missed big time during my time away from the UK(I left for a while) and it was the first place i went once i was back here and I was so sad to see the service being terrible. Previously, there was a very good manager and i think that just makes the experience something to remember. The floor service is so bad it ruins the good food they serve.More

Last night we enjoyed another wonderful evening, dining at Dastaan. As soon as you open the door and smell the mouthwatering aroma of the food from the open kitchen, you know that you are in for another treat, and we certainly were. The service from...welcome to goodbye was faultless. Attentive, but not overbearing. You are treated with respect and made to feel like you are a welcome guest in someone’s own home. Now for the food. Well, the food is Michelin indeed, to the very last bite. Super special and many of the dishes are a step away from you standard fare. Every bite tastes as good as the first, and the consistency is spot on (we can vouch, as we always order the chicken lollipops and Amritsar fish & prawns). Mains of a Rogan (with lamb on the bone), and their vivacious vindaloo. Both dishes oozed flavour, richness and a perfect level of heat. If too hot they gladly provide raita so that everyone can enjoy, no matter what their spice tolerance is. The rice was plentiful, fluffy and slightly al dente as it should be. I wish I could make perfect rice like that. The naan was so fresh and had the perfect balance of soft, fluffy doughiness and chew. Another absolutely hit of a meal that will keep us coming back for outmost special, important celebrations. If I could, I would go once a week!!More

Me and my partner book a table for two. We wanted a nice meal to celebrate our engagement. We were over the moon with the service and food- and I am very picky. Victoria provided an amazing service and make sure we have everything in...the highest quality. Food not only looks grat but teast like heaven! Evrything is perfectly balanced. Drinks are also very tasty and presented well. All staff very pleasant and nice. Restaurant is clean and decorated in nice way. Even with a lot of people in, you can still have space for yourself. Definitely we will go again! Thank you to all staff for an amazing job!More

Superb food and excellent service so very lucky to have this restaurant so close by. Absolute gem of a restaurant. This was my second visit but I’m planning to return soon. Both my sons were blown away with the delicious food.

The menu is very limited, prices are too high for the standard of the food, and unfortunately the staff did not know the best dishes for our requirements. We were recommended a chilli dish even though we asked specifically for a non-chilli dish. Very unpleasant...to bite into a whole chilli, when least expecting it. It's a good job we have no allergies. A bowl of yoghurt was swiftly delivered to our table, but it did not remedy the situation fast enough. That experience ruined the meal. The staff were very attentive and really friendly, but sadly the restaurant is highly overrated. They serve the courses far too quickly, and we were asked to move our starter plates to the side before finishing, as they were brining the mains out. Never had that happen before!More

Had the most unreal time at dastaan's bottomless brunch! 😍 Honestly could not get enough of the food. Everything was such high quality. For 35pp you can enjoy 2 dishes each and the portions are HUUUUGE! This is a bottomless that doesn't skinge on the...food offering at all. Everything was delicious. You can also enjoy cocktails, beers, IPAs, prosecco and wines. The cocktail menu is amazing as well. Definitely recommend the espresso martini!More

First things first, Dastaan is raved over by some very influential Chef's & Food reviewers. I follow one on particular, he thinks it's as good if not better than the top places in Mayfair. High praise, so my first visit was going to be interesting....We had enough food to sink a ship, Fish Amritsari, Lamb Chops, Lamb Biriany, Tiger Prawns, Bhajiyas, Dall Tadka, Naans. All absolutely delicious. Finished with homemade Pistachio Kulfi. Worth the 2 hour journey, highly recommendedMore

The (vegan) Asparagus and Jackfruit Biryani was absolutely yummy. Soft, dry rice, light as a feather, beautifully spicy. (It was served with a Tarka dahl, which was pretty good. We didn't order it but were very grateful for it as the Biryani would have been...a bit dry without it.). Sadly, the Tandoori Broccoli was nicely flavoured but rather poor overall as the stems were tough, and the florets were mushy and soggy. Just about full - on a Tuesday evening! Booking is advisable. Sensibly priced food and drinks. Bare walls and hard surfaces, coupled with happy, chatty customers, make the acoustics very difficult for people with poor hearing.More

We visited for the first time last night and had a great evening. A small restaurant, the atmosphere was lively but not too loud to chat. Don’t expect to see the usual choices offered in a high street Indian restaurant, the menu was a little...different but the staff were happy to help everyone who had questions. The staff were incredibly welcoming, nothing was too much trouble and they looked like they were genuinely happy to be there. Then the food itself, everything I had was delicious, full of flavour and really tasty. They clearly use quality ingredients as all the meat was very tender. The price is higher than your average Indian meal on the high street but in my opinion it was worth every penny. A real find, I’ll definitely be visiting again.More

Don't be fooled by its rather unprepossessing surroundings. This place is first class, the food among the best Indian I've ever had and the staff a delight. It's a real good treat.

We visited this much hyped restaurant hoping to have a good time. But disappointed! The ambience stands at a low with waiters expressing poor skills while serving at the table. The food is just average including lamb and chicken dishes.

Last night we enjoyed another fantastic visit to Dastaan. It is our favourite restaurant because they have such a fabulous menu. You will find familiar dishes (with the Dastaan magic added) such as butter chicken, saag gosht and samosas, as well as less familiar ones,...My advice would be to try something new as part of your meal, as we have discovered some fabulous new dishes from taking a chance and giving them a go. It never disappoints. We go there for very special occasions. In this case it was our 10 year wedding anniversary. The staff gave us a glass of bubbles to toast the occasion which was a lovely, unexpected touch. The service we have consistently received on each visit is always warm, welcoming, professional and special. The staff are also very knowledgeable about the food and can recommend dishes or explain in detail the preparation and ingredients. We began with the poppadums and dips - a selection of three delightful, fresh, vibrant chutneys. A perfect size portion to begin the meal and tempt our taste buds. This was followed by us sharing a selection of starters, tapas style - a lamb chop, the amritsari fish & a portion of the chicken lollipop. We always order the latter two dishes as they are incredibly tasty. This was our first time trying the lamb chop and it definitely lived up to the hype - tender, juicy and full of flavour. Onto the mains. We shared pilau rice (perfectly cooked and flavoured), naan, and two mains - a lamb rogan and the pork vindaloo. It is hard to find adjectives to describe how succulent, rich and delicious these dishes were. I confess that I am afraid of spicy food but here, the vindaloo is my favourite dish because it is wonderfully warm, rich, tangy and delicately spiced. It is nothing like typical curry house vindaloo that burns your mouth off. I could eat it time and time again. We also tried the bhajiyas for the first time and wow, I need to make them myself as they were divine (we have bought the Dastaan cookbook). The whole team at Dastaan are incredible at what they do, and they give the impression that they enjoy running such an interesting and tasty establishment. I hope it will be around for many years to come. We can't wait for our next excuse to go!More
