We have had a great time as some the recent events put on by The Birdcage. The Rock and Roll Bingo evening last night was brilliant. The staff are friendly and helpful - supposedly haunted yet I've sadly not seen anything yet.

It's very very old, I think it dates back to the 12th or 13th century. There's such a lovely warm welcoming atmosphere there, and a good range of ales and cider on tap. It is very much haunted throughout, but don't let that put you...More

We had 2 different pies which we both delicious - one with chicken & one with beef. Fine ales available, can sit outside in lovely Thame High Street. Staff very helpful, would definitely recommend!

Popped in for a lunch time drink and once we saw the pie menu we had to try one. Good selection of home made pies. Pie was amazing, steak and Stilton was awesome. Need to go back to try other pies on the menu.

Popped in for a drink or two during a music festival. The pub has a few nooks and crannies giving it a cosy feel. Plenty of seating outside, which overlooks the high street. Staff were friendly and a good selection of drinks. We didn't order...More

Visited Thame and 4 of use decided to stop for lunch. We liked the look of this place and on a sunny day were able to sit outside by the street, did not see a garden. There are plenty of tables inside in a typical...More

Staying opposite we wandered over to this great looking pub. Sun was shining (occasional cloudy bits!). It's a nicely upgraded "old fashioned" style pub with good ales and what looks like a pretty reasonable pub grub menu. We relaxed on the terrace, invited another couple...More

Description
The Birdcage, serving award winning pies by Pieminister and premium Craft & Speciality beer is located in Thame's town centre. Built around 1300 it has fortunately retained its structural character and many of the elm beams, once covered in ancient plaster, have been exposed creating the historical atmosphere inside and out. During the Napoleonic wars, the Birdcage housed French prisoners who incidentally founded the local Masons. In fact, for many years it was used as a holding house for petty thieves and criminals, even lepers on the upper floors! Of course stories handed down from generation to generation have only enhanced its eerie reputation of being haunted by some of these troubled souls!
