Highly recommended for a snack or afternoon tea. The staff are attentive and very friendly - nothing is too much trouble. Would recommend everything on the menu, especially the toasted sandwiches. Access is down a set of stairs but do not let this deter you...More

Make sure you visit with a big appetite as the portions are huge. The seating area downstairs is very very small. Tiny in fact and the tables are close together, which would be my only criticism, but the food more than makes up for that....More

Lovely little place down in the cellar. Great tea and scones with clotted cream. Highly recommended.

We visited Grannies for a mid-morning hot drink and a quick bite. The Tearoom is down narrow, very old stairs (don’t let this put you off), and whilst small, is extremely well organised and very welcoming. The service team are excellent and make you feel...More

Friendly efficient service, lovely freshly made lunch (generous portions) and excellent value for money. Hubby made short work of the home made scone. Will definitely be back.

Went for lunch while on a trip to alnwick, really quaint place, ecxcellent food, lovely staff and really reasonable prices. Place is tiny so being friendly helps as you are sitting close to other people, not sure if anyone with mobility problems would be able...More

A really interesting small and cosy venue to pop in to. Loved the "grannies bloomers" hanging on the wooden drying racks in front of the fire. I had the most enormous tea cake I have ever had and my husband had a scone. Both were...More

What a wonderful old building. Mind you, the steps are not for the fainthearted. Also, what a terrific delicatessen upstairs. The main event, lunch, was also good – apart from one nagging problem. I had a spectacular corn beef hash, one of the best ever,...More

Grannies Tea room and Delicatessen was established around 1984, then the tearoom only held a couple of tables placed within the shop. It was only later, in 1989, that the intimate downstairs tea room was developed within the basement where the old fashioned coal chutes, old style steps, fireplace and flagstone flooring can still be seen. Grannies is a strong advocate for the local food movement in Alnwick, and offers a wide range of local produce within the deli, shop and tea room.
