My partner and myself have been eating here several times a year over the last 16 years as it was our favourite restaurant and was worth the 12 mile journey, until our recent visit as the standards have now gone down, food dried out and not topped up, a grubby appearance to chairs and tables, and our table had fresh sliced mushrooms on the seats and looked like someone had been preparing food there before we arrived instead of in the kitchen. Some of the staff are students who were not particularly friendly. The owner was also looking after a young baby at the same time as working and the table next to ours had baby toys, baby food etc and other baby things all over it making it a bit of an eyesore. In the past this was a lovely authentic Chinese restaurant but now resembles a tacky cafe, it is such a shame that it has had gone downhill. Most of the food was good, but the coke cola was warm and flat with no ice cubes. However Buffett cost was very reasonable, but I doubt that we will go there again unfortunately.

Delivery option is extortion. Recipe poor.

I was forced to spend over £12 to get the delivery as an option. Then a £1 delivery charge and a 50p service were added. When it arrived, the delivery staff refused to bring it upstairs to my front door (flats 1st floor), repeatedly claiming the door wouldn't open. When I went down the door was open and as he handed it to me he said "you no tip, I no bring it up." This is despite being charged £1.50 for the online-delivery and, having to order extra for delivery to even be an option Total=£14. To top that he had a child in tow, suggesting I am taking food from his child's mouth. The Set-meal-for-one was anaemic, no Pak Choi, no ginger, no hint of chilli, no aroma of 5 spice. Only flavours were sweetness, and lots of onion: chicken and onion in sweet sauce. Egg fried rice had no egg in it, wasn't fried, and was a basmati rice. I really feel this place has really lost it's way. Only clue for a recipe is lots of places to save on ingredients. No idea of customer service, damn near hand out begging. So no, only madness would make me order here again.

First and last time at this restaurant. Appearance from the outside looked grim and the decor and seats were awful. I was advised that this place was cheap and cheerful but at £15 per head the food wasnt worth it. It did not help in the fact that there were hairs on the plates either!!!!

Absolutely terrible service. Pre-ordered for a delivery at 7pm, at 7:50pm I called the restaurant and they told me it was in the kitchen, but unable to tell me when it would be delivered as it depends on when the delivery drivers get back (so doesn't seem organised at all!) I still hadn't heard back at 9pm, so I called again at 9:05pm, over 2 hours since my order was due to be delivered, and over 1 hour since my food was cooked!! To be told that they still don't know when they will be delivering it, when I queried the fact my food would be cold, I was told it is sat in the kitchen where it is hot still? I asked for the order to be cancelled, they told me it was, however, marked it as completed and delivered on just eat so now I am in a dispute about getting my money back!!!! So we had no food, and now we have no money refunded. The only bit of compensation I was offered was '10% off our next order' absolutely not. I will NEVER be coming here again, my first experience and it was awful, definitely one to avoid.

Terrible customer service by the staff after enquired that wrong dish was sent. Girl on the phone was rude and slammed the phone down after I asked why it would take an hour to resend one dish. Such a shame as used to be a great takeaway but won’t use again if this is the attitude to customers

I haven't been here for well over a year. The place was an absolute dump, staff unfriendly and the buffet food was poor quality. We decided to give it another go and were so pleasantly surprised we've been back again the same week. The place has been decorated and feels a lot cleaner than before. The tables and chairs are covered and not sticky. The food was hot and tasty, a few of the buffet options still involved a hunt for the meat - but infinitely better than before. The students working there are friendly and interested in their jobs - hats off to them! So why not five stars... Well the delivery staff make an absolute racket when they come in shouting from one end of the restaurant to the other and member of the family who run the place thought leaving the front door open while smoking outside was ok. It was freezing inside and quite unpleasant to eat through the cigarette smell.

Just took a delivery from Oriental Gourmet - Vile!

Just took a delivery from here. First and last time we will use it. My partner usually has a tough constitution and will eat anything but in six years that’s the first time I’ve watched as he tipped the food in bin. Disgusting chemical taste in every dish. I couldn’t eat beyond a mouthful. The best bit? The plastic boxes although at over £20 to only have those, it was obviously an expensive purchase. I hope Dragon City reopens soon as I’m tempted to call in the EHO on this establishment. Steer clear!

poor takeaway services

been trying to order a takeaway from here three times now, one from just eat app, foodhub and also their own website. Every time allowed us to pay, etc and within 30 minutes told us they aren’t accepting our order and we will be refunded. Every time the restaurant has been open so not quite sure what’s going on. was very disappointed

Amazing place for a meal and happy atmosphere

Myself and my friends visited oriental gourmet this evening. We have been eating at this restaurant for some time and have always had a great time. The waitresses were very attentive and efficient. The buffet was very clean and full. The food was amazing as always so thank you to you all for a great evening. Look forward to our return

aggressive behaviour & food poison.

visited here with my partner and 2 friends. we had the worst expirience of our lives. our chips was stone cold they was then replaced and then the chicken balls was stone cold then got replaced to chicken balls that wasn’t cooked and the batter wasn’t cooked ( pink chicken ). We called them up and they was aggressive over the phone and demanded we went down. we then went to the restaurant and got verbally abused and attempted assault outside the restaurant by management. Do not reccomend to anyone. stay away.

:-( TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED - WON'T EAT HERE AGAIN! :-(

We first ate here 15 years ago and were yearly regulars until Covid lockdown. We revisited this week and so disappointed... :-( This place is now an insult to Chinese food and has tried unsuccessfully to reinvent itself with colourful wallpaper and a lick of paint; it hasn't worked! Food: We ask the owners / management, this question : how and why have your food standards dropped to this level? Hot food sat in bain maries, blasting out steam throughout the restaurant, steaming up the walls and windows, so much, it's like sitting in a sauna! Mentioned this to waitress who kindly opened the front door. The food in the buffet troughs had been sitting there a long time: most of the sauces had a skin on the top, chicken dishes heated for so long they were dried out or lost flavour, vegetable roll and onion ring fillings had turned to mush, dried out scraps of duck, mushy noodles and rice :-( the list of dreadful dishes goes on! We managed to salvage a meal by requesting freshly cooked dishes eg noodles and chicken balls + cucumber slices, but still well below expected quality for the price. Definitely not worth £15 per person. While we were there, lots of drivers collecting large bags of takeaway orders - so are the management focusing on the Takeaway / Just Eat service and totally neglecting the in house option? Additional : Toilets : no handle on women's toilet, so no escape once inside! A concern for young children and those with mobility difficulties. Men's toilet: no paper towels to dry hands. Unfortunately, we will NEVER VISIT again, unless the freshly cooked authentic Chinese food, that used to be served, RETURNS. However, there was one BRIGHT Shining SUPER STAR working here.. a COURTEOUS, UNDERSTANDING, TALENTED YOUNG WOMAN Who Tried HER VERY BEST TO FIX ALL THE ISSUES... SHE WAS TOTALLY CUSTOMER FOCUSED in MANAGING ALL THE COMPLAINTS AND WORKING ABOVE HER POSITION, DEALING WITH PROBLEMS CAUSED BY THE MANAGEMENT... SHE SHOULD BE WORKING AT THE RITZ WITH HER SKILLS - NOT HERE! There are plenty of other places to eat in Rushden, so unless this place completely transforms its in house dining experience, SPEND YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE .

Had a delivery from Oriental yesterday. Had to wait a little longer than expected but it was well worth it Every part of the meal was fresh and tasty and the staff who took the order, although busy, was very efficient...Well worth the wait...food as it should be done...
